BELLEVUE - Discography 2011

During the late 70's Andreas Hofer (guitars) & Jürg Grob (bass) began to meet for evening sessions of noise at former "venues" such as defunct bomb shelters and parking lots. These nights brought together a wide range of very unique and diverse characters (many many others were also very actively involved). When vocalist Peter Hefti joined in 1980, the name Bellevue was adopted. After a handful of shows Jean Bhend (drums) left and was replaced by Major Many from the Rebels. The band consisted of former art-school students, looking for a new direction and for those involved who weren't, Bellevue was a reaction to the stereotypical, chart-oriented music that was dominating the mainstream of that time. Bellevue sang in German and English, lyrically dealing with issues such as government surveillance, the army, drugs & genetic engineering. Besides a handful of shows across Germany, they predominantly played in their home city of Zurich with the odd out-of-town performance every so often. It all unfortunately came to an end in 1983 after the release of their second single "Soldatenlied".    

So here is now this beautiful piece of punkrock outta Switzerland! Absolutly beautifully packaged collection of the two 7"s of this essential SwissPunk band, some never before released studio songs from the period plus three remastered but still raw live songs. Killer-Punkrock-record with thirteen magic midtempo-punk-tracks with mostly German lyrics. Edition of 500 copies only, includes an awesome insert with band-story and images of old concert-posters.

V/A - Pogo Punks 1999

Actually I didn't post a sampler again because the most songs on this are otherwise available in Blogland and I thought to myself it's a waste of time to post lots of double cuts but this unoffical release leaves me no choice. Excellent song selection with massive early original Swiss Punk from 1977 - 1982. I have found that many Swiss punk records are available again today at fair prices, but you have to be fast. Here we have nine complete 7inches (except Bellevue) and this goes out to the swiss maniac who falls from the chair and lobotomized his neighbors.

V/A - Von Uns Für Uns 1982

Grüezi Mitenand and welcome to the eleventh weekend of 2022 dear friends! Let's see what I have for you today. Let's start with an interesting rarity, that fully deserve the predicate D.I.Y. and I give you a little basics: "The joy of being open or being able to be with each other, conversing, the feeling of doing something for each other. The emotion against time, the inertia." That was the intuition in September 1981 for the concert in the Roti Fabrik on January 30, 1982 with six bands (Zurich area), crowds people big event with music by Punks for Punks, and this record is the result of that. Everything was self-produced/financed in collaboration with the involved bands and released on green vinyl with a 16-pages stapled booklet and a folded poster. "We were tired of events where everything and everyone went under. We wanted to make music, by us for us!" - Wild, Rough, Raw, Authentic. TOP!

AL KAPOTT - L'ours 7'' 1986

 

Debut 7Inch by this four piece and musicians on this record were Bichon (vocals), Erwan (guitars), Patrice (bass), Fred (drums). Al Kapott was formed in November 1983 in the constituency of Bellevue in Brest. The local rock-punk scene was then teeming, enthusiastic but very uneven due to lack of means and above all due to its youth and lack of experience. During an interview with Bichon, the band rehearsed in the beginnings Wednesdays and Saturday afternoons, in our apartments. It was hot, we were obviously making noise. We got pissed off, we had the cops a few times. The neighbors complained: they asked us to "lower the drum", which was impossible! We didn't have any gear or sound, just a bit of drums, a little amp. I was singing into a transistor. The band molds itself into the typical punk sound of the 80s and sings in French. Not indulging in any trend, they made a name for itself with their fantastic songs and most of them have been released on compilations. A mini album was released, as well a 7Inch, self-produced and 1000 copies pressed, not really much and in 1987 they broke up. Bichon explained that they lacked money before and after the tours, and decided to separate by mutual agreement, "without confusion". Then reformed more than fifteen years later in 2005, to separate again in 2009. Becoming a cult group on the punk rock scene of the 1980s, Al Kapott's comeback was especially celebrated by long-time fans. Their style is known for accompanying rhythm and powerful sound and the satirical-rebellious lyrics, which are embodied in the special tone of their singer Bichon, who unfortunately died in October 2019 at the age of 52.

The long out of print double LP compilation "Definitiv Zürich" + EP is probably the most important musical tone document around the Zurich punk era and thus a piece of history. 36 songs are included here, which retain their cult status to this day, some even were the starting point for the steep careers in national and international pop world. At this powerhouse no one comes by who is interested in the Swiss underground music of the glorious days that had gone by. And here's something for everybody. Essential!

TECHNYCOLOR - Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien (1979-1981) 2015

Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien ("No, I don't regret anything") is the most famous chanson by Édith Piaf and the fitting title of this splendid compilation by Static Age Records, which was released in 2015. 400 copies were pressed, from that 100 limited in red wine silkscreenprint cover (my copy). Switzerland is a very small country, but has produced an infinite number of good bands. Punk exists there as music, political and youth culture, with the scene developing from the mid-1970s and flourishing between 1976 and 1981. One of the first bands (1977) was the Zurich Nasal Boys. Later bands like Bellevue, TNT, Sperma and of course Technycolor were founded, which released their first EP "Bunker" in 1979. Today priceless the original. Technycolor from Geneva make dark (post) punk with French lyrics. Especially "Tot 77" about the death of the RAF members in Stammheim convinced with provocative German exclamations like "Stammheim/Helmut Macht Frei". Whoever dug here did a great job. There are unpublished studio recordings, radio sessions (all from the early days) and lots of material that makes you wonder why it wasn't released back then. This record is a collection with fourteen varied & experimental songs, consisting of the Bunker 7Inch, plus unpublished pieces of their early repertoire, and already very sought in these harsh times. Comes with a twenty-four page booklet in french/english and Ford Rouge (vocals), Ray & Victor (guitars), Yvesteric (bass), Mike (synth) and Fred (drums) invite you for dance, so let's pogo.

GIRLS FROM TAHITI - Tower Of Love 12'' 1984

Here’s a post-punk rarity that came out of Switzerland in the early ’80s. Girls From Tahiti from Zurich was a four member group, founded after BELLEVUE broke up in 1983, that took on the classic approach of the greats in the genre and emphasized not anger and energy, but mood and expression. Their only release kicks off with a rumbling gloomy gem called 'No Reply' that has fantastic background sound effects and trademark stripped-down minimal guitar arrangements. It then moves into a more tempered approach with the dissonant moods of 'Streets Of Spite.' The B-Side rolls on with two more top drawer melodramatic songs. This foursome embraced haunting melodies and isolated vocal content to produce four exquisite songs. On 21 October 1983 they played their first gig. Pending Publication of their 12" on March 23, 1984 they gave all in all 15concerts. After the recording Peter van der Zouw came for Dani on drums, then it was quiet around the band - too bad - this 12'' makes addictive and I listen to it 2-3 times in a row. This is about as good as it gets for obscure post-punk wave fans.

So that are no gaps here, now the missing piece of the puzzle of the essential compilation series from Incognito/Insekten Records headquarters: Back To Front; Means many rare unsung heroes who created fantastic music & colorful subcultures in the early wild years 1977-1982 worldwide and vehement flouted the dusty degenerate biblehousesocietynorms. Twenty-three brilliant examples prove once again that the music is different and the spirit is more alive than today. Mostly good stuff on this Volume and 1000 copies exist.
