Nice litte record by this four piece - Scott (vocals), Kurt (guitars), Al (bass) & Dave (drums) - from Seattle and we enjoy three brilliant tracks, their only official record released on No Threes Records. In 2015 a Compilation, See You Next Year, Fuckbrains, was released, featuring additional recordings from 1978/1979, all previously unreleased. It came in a limited edition of 200 copies on blue vinyl and a four-page picture book. The info is used from this slab: "The Cheaters began in late 1977, like many other bands of their time, high school friends who wanted to “form a band” and finding their outlet in Punkrock music. Brothers Kurt & Al Bloch writing songs and practicing in their parents’ basement. With no money to record properly, they began a year of basement tapes, very crude to begin with, but as the playing improved, so did their “one-track” recordings. Saving up enough money to record and release a Single in late 1979, they promptly disintegrated live on stage in October of that year." - They are represented on a few Compis and all essential.

GORDONS - Future Shock EP 1980
It's have been come a little quiet on wdthtc, but I really have little time or muse to continue forward. Partly because of the summer weather, and partly because life is priority. So, your patience is required. But now a interesting combo from far far away and I quote some info from Discogs for you: "The Gordons formed in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1980 and were comprised of Alister Parker (vocals/guitars), John Halvorsen (bass) and Brent McLachlan (drums). With a sound both edgy Post-Punk and semi-industrial, they toured and recorded throughout 1980, and in December released their first EP Future Shock. In late 1981, they recorded their first album The Gordons, which was voted album of 1981 in music magazine Ripitup, and subsequently split up. In late 1983, though, they re-emerged with Alister Parker replaced by new singer/guitarist Vince Pinker, and released their second album "Volume Two" in 1984. From late 1984 to 1986, the original line-up of The Gordons reformed and began recording material, which they later refused to release. During this late period, John Halvorsen joined the Skeptics, while in 1986, Alister Parker formed a new band initially called Nelsh Bailter Space. Halvorsen joined the now truncated Bailter Space in 1987, and in 1989, the original Gordans line-up was reunited when Brent McLachlan also joined the band. In 2013 The Gordons' debut was named a New Zealand Classic album at the annual Taite Awards." In any case, it takes a bit of getting used to than what you know from this country, but it's still worth listening to!

ZOUNDS - More Trouble 7'' 1982
Zounds is one of my favorite UK Punk band and this is one of their last single before they took a long break in 1982 (back 2001). A review: "Reputedly the last release from Zounds, this 45 showcases an appealing change of musical direction. From punk origins to their rather post-punk phase to this, an ennui-filled variety of pop music particular to the English." (Jeff Bale, MRR #3 • November/December 1982) I also think that the steam of the early tones has subsided a bit, much calmer and softer, almost like fabric softener, but still audible and just Zounds. Compare their other works in the blog and I don't want to babble too much, because a week of vacation is starting and I'll be spending it in the countryside, but stay tuned friends, the thread continues to spin.

ACTIVE DOG - s/t 7'' 1979
Formed 1978 in Vancouver this short-lived five piece called Active Dog and only one record is out with two brilliant goodies. Members were Bill (vocals), Chris & Terry (guitars), Ross (bass), Robert (drums) and they released this beauty by their own label. Besides this single they had two more songs on the Vancouver Complication slab, but by the time it was released the band had split up. Two members went to the Pointed Sticks and the band never recovered. In an era characterized by musical experimentation and the search for new sounds and stands out like a sparkling diamond in the musical ocean of the late 70s. This energetic anthem is not only a catchy tune, but also a powerful manifesto against the monotony of everyday life and the treadmill. From the very first notes, the listener is transported into a dynamic soundscape featuring pulsating rhythms and catchy melodies. The singer's distinctive voice immediately captivates, conveying a blend of determination and optimism. The powerful guitar riffs and driving bass give the track a distinctive energy that invites you to dance and sing along. What makes "Rat Race" special is the deeper message behind the catchy melody. The lyrics reflect the frustrations and challenges of modern life while offering an encouraging perspective. Active Dog succeeds in inspiring the listener to defy societal expectations and find their own path. It's a call to cast off the shackles of everyday life and live life to the fullest. The single's production is remarkable, it captures the spirit of the times without succumbing to nostalgia. Instead it sounds fresh and timeless, as if it could still serve as a soundtrack for a generation striving for authenticity and freedom. A fantastic record that encourages you to pursue your dreams and not be constrained by life's routine and a hidden gem that instills a sense of hope and courage. Magic!

V/A - Berlin Frisbee #02 EP 2002
Second 7Inch Compilation in the small Berlin Frisbee series, released alongside the masterpiece Wenn Kaputt Dann Wir Spass. All of this material is a fascinating piece of divine music that powerfully captures the pulsating energy and creativity of the Berlin underground scene. Upon first listening, I was immediately impressed by the diversity and innovative approach of the tracks included. The compilation offers an exciting mix and reflects the feeling of early, spontaneous basement bands, and each track brings its own character, making the overall listening experience extremely pleasant and varied. It's impressive how diversely the then enclave of Berlin managed to combine its influences while simultaneously presenting its own distinctive style. Many of the songs are not only musically appealing, but also emotionally profound. The lyrics tell stories that range from personal experiences to social issues, and this symbiosis simply sticks in your mind, making listening to this little nostalgic record an intense experience. The recordings are consistently high-quality, and Weird System, as always, has selected the best nuggets. Creative and experimental, Berlin Frisbee #02 is an excellent homage that brings the early Punk rebellion into your home. It's a record I enjoy playing again and again to preserve my identity and be swept away by the energy of the raw sound. 1000 hand numbered copies and an absolute must-have!

XUTOS & PONTAPÉS - Remar, Remar 7'' 1984
Here I am again, and life takes its toll, so there's not much new here, but I guess you've browsed the blog and found plenty of good ingredients for survival. Today we're visiting a beautiful country that I visited last year and meet Xutos & Pontapés, along with UHF, they are considered one of the most well-known Portuguese bands and can look back on a career spanning over forty years. Although they have retained some Punk influences (earlier albums) over the years, their style has essentially remained the same: their own brand of decent Rock. This is their third 7Inch (came also as 12inch with the short version) on Fundação Atlântica with two cool numbers. This beauty is a fascinating piece of Portuguese rock history that will appeal to both fans of the band and new listeners. Active since the late Seventies, the band has established a firm foothold in the Portuguese music scene, and this release is another example of their talent and consistency. "Remar, Remar" offers a powerful blend of catchy melodies and dynamic rhythms, typical of Xutos & Pontapés' style. The guitar riffs are energetic, giving the track an infectious vitality. The singer's voice is full of passion and conveys the song's message with impressive intensity. The lyrics are profound and thought-provoking, reinforcing the emotional connection to the music. The single itself is a beautiful collector's item. The cover design is simple and reflects the band's character. The physical form of the record brings a nostalgic feeling that is often lost in today's digital music landscape. It's a pleasure to put the record on and experience the warm sound of the analog recording. Overall, a strong work and a wonderful reminder of why the band is one of the most influential in the country. If you want to escape from Punkrock sound and need some "relaxing" music, for example for cooking or other things, you should listen to this music, as I will do later.

V/A - Ei Gude Wie 2015
Back with a local compilation from the beautiful state of Hesse and this beauty features Hessian Cult Hits, that's says the cover but cult isn't the right word, what is cult? There are about 80% good songs on it, that's why I ordered the CD and the Bembel on the front fits our culture and we drink the delicious Äppelwoin out this. My version is called Bloodstains Across Hessen with more Punk material. For me, this thing is not a bad buy, good selection and ideal for tourists. Phew, I'm a bit irradiated and so I'll say goodbye quickly and see you tomorrow, enjoy the music!

MORTIMER - Profesión 7'' 1979
Second (first 7Inch listen here) and final 7Inch by Mortimer from Barcelona on Chapa Discos. In 1977 the new scene in Barcelona was basically formed by just a few bands and Mortimer was one of them. Many disbanded in barely a year without putting out any full length. This was the case with Mortimer, a trio formed by Xavier (vocals/guitars), Josep (bass) and Iñaki (drums). Discogs says: Clearly not punk (music wise), Mortimer were more a straight Rock band, not too far away from mid 70s british pub-rock bands but with a Hardrock edge. Pure "Rock De Barrio" from the filthy (then) streets of Barcelona worst districts. The reason why they were included in the Punk-pack was both because of a marketing strategy of their label Belter, but also because in those wild days (Franco had died only two years before) their attitude and stage energy was considered dangerous, rebellius and antisocial. They were on some Compilations and that's it.
LILIEDUGG - Neonråte EP 1981
Liliedugg was formed in Trondheim 1980 and on their debut EP they consisted of Lars (vocals), Gunnar & Steinar (guitars), Torgeir (bass), Lard (drums). They released this infamous EP in 1981 and a full length two years later. The first version of this beauty came with a pornographic cover. The bands distributor refused to carry it and sell it. The band caved in and printed up a more neutral cover. The neutral cover is considered the most rare version as it was only sold in a few stores and the band continued to sell the pornographic version at their gigs. Liliedugg was known for outrageous stage performances with a mix of Punk and Hardrock and from the EP to their only full-length album their music went in a darker and more experimental direction. Lyrically, the focus was then more on English lyrics. Subsequent releases include a split LP with Wannskrækk and a split 7Inch with Helter Skelter, as well as several songs on Compilations. 1984 they broke up, but they continued to play a reunion concert once in a while. In 2006 they reformed as a band. In 2007 they released a discography CD called Sannhetens Voktere. In November 2006, Liliedugg & Wannskrækk played a reunion concert at UFFA. Since then they occasionally performed reunion concerts and finally made a mini-CD Slow Atomic Bomb in 2007. Enjoy four exceptional tracks from an interesting band that only managed to make the leap to other Norwegian heroes to a limited extent; a great EP in any case.

THE MOONDOGS - Talking In The Canteen EP 1981
Well, the north Irish three piece Moondogs from Derry are already a welcome guest in this theater and today follows another highlight with their, I think, third 7Inch at Real Records. I can offer you three perfect tunes and it's like a release from old burdens, if you know what I mean, it's a positive move, excellent guitar playing and solid mid-tempo and each song is individual. The Moondogs have quality and show it, I am very impressed with their sound and when you hear it you will understand what I mean. Grab it!
