V/A - Chiswick Aquaria 1978

Magnificent pub/punk compilation on this rare Italian issue with bands made at least one 7inch on Chiswick Records, the sublabel and forerunner of Ace Records, started in 1975 by Ted Carroll and Roger Armstrong, with its origins in a second hand 45 records market stall in London. They were later joined by record fanatic Trevor Churchill. Towards the end of the 70s, they were releasing work by a series of "Pub Rock" bands. It is now the punk, power pop and rock label in the Ace Records stable. Nine bands with fourteen songs from their early young & unspent days, some made it into big business, others disappeared into nowhere and some swam unfortunately away to the right scum. Apart from that, this is an excellent compilation, this is the expensive promo release, and still worth buying. 1980 came out a Spanish release called Chiswick Aquaria Collection with more label bands.

1.Psychotic Reaction - RADIATORS FROM SPACE
2.Saints & Sinners - JOHNNY & THE SELF ABUSERS
3.When The Night Comes - LITTLE BOB STORY

Released at the German label Beri Beri Records with a lyricsheet inside. One song in native Norwegian the others in English. DER EISERNE VORHANG - Franzi 7'' 1982

Here's a little 7inch from Austria with two "nervous" wave goodies. Released as a appetizer from their only album which came out on Ariola. Der Eiserne Vorhang was such an art "All Star Group" around the O. Tannenbaum operator (clothing shop in Vienna's Jewish quarter) Ronald Fleischmann (he was such an art Malcolm McLaren of Vienna and co-founder of 'Panza Platte'). The a-side has with Franzi a nice cover-version of XTC’s 'Making Plans For Nigel' and is a superb one. The b-side is the title track of their album and has good critical lyrics, sung in the melancholy Austrian dialect how I like it. Real cheerful natures this people. Musically, the song's a monotonic electric driving one, ideal for excessive four-person activity in bed with lots of in/out...ahhh...oooooh.. and so on... Let's stay factual again, check them out worth a listen in any case. - They're also members of Heimat Bist Du Großer Söhne compilation + the essential De Guade Oide Zeit 3LP compilation.

ÖSTRO 430 - Durch Dick & Dünn 1981

Östro 430 were the first all female Punkband & founded December 1979 in Düsseldorf by Martina (vocals/sax), Bettina (keyboards), Marita (drums) and Monika (bass). Just three weeks before the first appearance, Monika got out and was replaced by Olivia. On May 3, 1980, their first appearance took place in the Okie Dokie in Neuss @ a festival organized by the punk fanzine "Schmier". They were noticed by Fehlfarben, which they hired as opener for their Germany tour. In 1980 three songs (Sexueller Notstand, Triebtäter & Too Cool) were released on the Schallmauer compilation and one year later the first mini 12'' Durch Dick & Dünn followed with eight songs. A few months after the slab was out, Marita and Olivia left, Gisela & Birgit came in. In 1983 the full length Weiber Wie Wir was released and at the end of 1983 came Ralf as guitarist and completed the line-up but no further releases came after the collapse of Schallmauer-Records. Östro 430 gave their farewell concert @ the Garath Freizeitstätte in Düsseldorf on May 25, 1984 and disbanded. On 28 May 1999 they play one reunion gig @ the Tor 3.

Martina sang on records from Family 5, Prollhead and die Ärzte in the early 1990s. Bettina became a gynecologist, Olivia joined Fehlfarben at the beginning of 1982 and took part in background vocals and bass on some pieces. After the big three-month tour through Germany/Austria/Holland, shortly before the Rockpalast performance, she left the band and moved to Italy. Since 1989 she lives again in Düsseldorf.

Style: Despite the unusual instrumentation (no guitar, electric piano instead of synthesizer), the music of the four students was often counted as punk, mainly because of its clear and angry lyrics. The titles Sexueller Notstand & Triebtäter are examples of the main themes of sex, outdated views about women and philistine. The band characterized their style as “simple but rough”.

SOGBLETTIR - Orð Öskursins 12'' 1987

Over the Arctic Ocean to the volcanic island of Europe and the lovely elves present us Orð Öskursins, the rare debut 12Inch by Sogblettir, a four piece from Reykjavík, which came out in an edition of 500 copies before Christmas 1987. The songs were recorded in spring 1987 by Jón (vocals), Arnar (guitars), Ari (bass), Gunnar (drums) and released via Smekkleysa. One year later came their last mini-album Fyrsti Kossinn (nowadays at horrendous prices available) with six goodies to the surface and after that was Finito. Musically, we meet the typical heavy, cloudy, wild sound of the opposites of fire and ice which the Northmen pack brilliant in three songs... a great appearance!

TEENAGE HEAD - King St. Teddy Boys 2007

Damn good record now by Teenage Head from Hamilton, Ontario. The group was formed in Hamilton by Frankie Venom (Frank Kerr), Gord Lewis, Steve Mahon and Nick Stipanitz. Stipanitz has since been replaced, and Venom died on October 15, 2008. He is survived by his two kids Samuel and Anjel-joe. The band's name is a reference to The Flaming Groovies' album Teenage Head, which Gord Lewis had seen advertised in a music magazine, but not heard, and decided that he, one day, would form a band with that name. They released records since 1979 and are still active; on this little nugget are twelve wild ass-kicker, side-a was recorded @ Thunder Sound, Oct. 31, 1978, Toronto and on the other @ Danforth Music Hall/Toronto 1979 and Western University, London/Ontario 1980; all songs in an amazing sound quality, Top!

Picture My Face /Get Off My Boat/Little Boxes/Kissin' The Carpet/Ain't Got No Sense/Top Down/Tearing Me Apart/Some Kind Of Fun/Lucy Potato/C'mon Everybody/Wild One/Let's Shake

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World #4 2019

The coldest month in this country knocks and to leave it outside, we heat up the first day with more rarities of the glory years 1977-1985 from across the world. Successful selection again, but it's a shame that the presentation is very sparse. Of course, the lack of money is responsible, but always using the same artwork and just changing the titles is not particularly creative. This could be better as well with little resources in my opinion. Well, I don't wanna complain, but criticizing is allowed. Meanwhile there are #5 and #6 out and will surely follow this year. We can be curious how long the world will continue to supply us with material. Enjoy!

1.Rock & Roll Death Camp - ANGLE

THE BOMB PARTY - Life's A Bitch EP 1985

Quite a slaughter I would call the three songs of the English Bomb Party from Leicester which are on their third EP on Abstract Records. The unholy alliance was founded in the early 80s and consisted of Jesus (vocals), Mark (guitars), Sarah (bass), Steve (drums) and they took the name from a novel by Graham Green and so the band was born. They released in their lifespan a few 7Inches and four albums. On the back stand "Recorded Live @ The Triangle/Birmingham" but I'm not sure if that's true. Actually, it doesn't matter, a slab with this truly incontestable title is interesting. In the end of 1989 they played a 13 date tour of England, plus a mini-tour of Germany, before performing what turned out to be their last ever gig, at the Mean Fiddler's Powerhaus in London, on the 17th December. The following year they released their fourth album, Nativity #3, recorded in Germany without Sarah, who had other commitments. This was to be their last recording, and the band effectively ceased to exist on it's completion (taken from a press release in 1989). Bonny record!

THE CHOPS - Disgrace EP 1982

Dutch punk on the one hand aggressive and violent and experimental and minimal on the other. These five gentlemen combine both on their only record on Welvaartsstaat Records: The Chops were formed 1979 by Eddy (vocals), Chris & Kees (guitars), Johan (bass), Rob (drums) under the name but really started at the beginning of the 80’s when some members of CVC decided to start an other band. Eventually lost their second guitar player and did some gigs with only one guitarplayer. Speedy went to the Boegies, Chris began concentrating on his studies, Kees went to play in The Slow Ones and brothers Vergonet started a Fishrestaurant in their old rehearsalroom. They could also be found on compilations, for example on the famous Punk Live In Brouwershoeck and two others. Enjoy this lost KBD nugget to the fullest.

ANTI-SYSTEM - A Look At Life 12'' 1986

Fine music to start the gray Wednesday and again, over the channel where we meet Anti-System, a "British anarcho punk band which were formed in Bradford 1981 with a line-up of Phil (drums), George (bass), Nogsy (vocals) and Dom Watts (guitar) the band recorded a demo whose tracks found their way onto Punk Dead-Nah Mate, The Smell Is Jus Summink In Yer Underpants Innita, a Pax Records compilation. Their debut release was the five-track Defence Of The Realm EP issued in 1983, which was followed (on Reconciliation Records after the closure of Pax Records) with the No Laughing Matter album in 1985 and the A Look At Life 12'' in 1986. Like some other anarcho-punk bands of the time the band were promoters of animal rights causes, their debut EP being a benefit for animal welfare groups and prior to the recording of the A Look At Life there was a necessity for a new line-up as two of the original members had been imprisoned for various animal rights actions. Mark Keane and Michael Teale were imprisoned in 1986, shortly after recording. The band reformed in 2014." Five dynamic fetzer on a high level, clean production and "In My Eyes" is a blast.
