SECTION 5 - The Way We Were 1990

An older rip: "Section 5 was founded 1981 in Stoke On Trent, England. Formed by Tosh & Sid the original bassist for many years and the first line-up consisted of Tosh (guitar), Sid (bass), Rat (drums) & Tony Boult (vocals). This line-up did around five shows when it came clear it was not going to work out. Tony was replaced by Dave Maskery aka Mask around 1983. This line-up then went on to do around twenty gigs and thirteen demo tracks. On hearing these tracks Roddy Moreno then signed the band in 1985 to his label Oi! Records. By this time Tosh had taken over on vocals and the band became a three piece when their debut album we wont change came out in 1985. By the time the second album came out on Link Records in 1987. Rat had been replaced on drums by Nik Drjuricic. By 1988 for the Street Rock'N'Roll album on Link they had been joined by Tezz Roberts ex Discharge/Broken Bones & UK Subs. This was the line up that paved the way for what is now Section 5's sound! After this as only Tezz knew how he settled in the states became Terry Bones and ended up with Minstry. By 1990 Tezz was replaced by Tony Sids mate on lead and Nik was replaced by Steve Walker. It was this year they released their last album on Link The Way Way We Were. But in true Tezz style he did return to the U.K.to guest on Bring The Wall Down/Too Many People & Final Fight on that album. He would later return to record 'They think its all over/Hammer In The Nails' and the Hard Life CD & play a big part in the bands comeback in 2003. But back to the early 90's the situation of the scene started choking the band and they called it a day. The right wing left wing fights and bullshit became too much and Tosh wanted no part of it. Many more line up changes later various splits and comebacks and more splits. All be it one of the laziest bands on the planet as far as doing gigs. But things are about to change in 2010. U.K.SUBS - Endangered Species 1982

Fourth album by the UK Subs and few words are needed because the band around Charlie Harper is known to every Punkrocker in this universe. Lots of reviews you can find on the net and you can never do anything wrong with a Subs record, it's good at any time, every moment and I hardly know any other combo that can keep their level constantly high. It's a bit different compared to the first two albums, the songs are longer and contain less fast songs, but that's what I find interesting because another onetwothree action would be boring.

PARTY FORCE - s/t EP 2015

It's really amazing how life kicks ass at irregular intervals. This weekend, Saturday evening to be precise, is the DFB-Cup final, a highlight for me and my girlfriend, and we were really looking forward to this evening together, but it's canceled now, I'm bedridden with a fever and a sore throat, thirty degrees outside, she's in the hospital for some fucking glandular organ. Of course, health comes first blah blah blah etc..... but moments like this are rare and if you don't get them, it upsets me. Well, fuck it! First post in June is the debut 7Inch with five rippers by Party Force from Oakland, line-up Ref (vocals/bass), Brian (guitars), Hal (drums). I bought their record at a concert where they support, I think the UK Subs but I'm not sure, ist auch scheißegal, coole Single with fast loud stuff. Enjoy!

When the Bloodstains series had its hype in the mid Nineties they were posted on a lot of blogs and I've sucked quite a few too and there were some selfmade cuts by people that didn't come out on vinyl and this compilation is one of them. V/A - Trash On Delivery 1983

Bad news, my computer crashed yesterday and so there are no more freshly ripped records for the next time and I have to reorganize everything. It sucks, but it was inevitable. Having said that I want to make sure I keep posting and therefore an older rip with an excellent description: "The holy grail of bands who looked to conquer theses sleazy streets of London in the early '80s are contained in the almighty 1983 compilation Trash On Delivery. Not quite "third wave glam" (but if you like-y, be sure to check out Jook or The Radio Stars) or third Wave Punk (not quite the Anti-Nowhere League, but check out the UK Subs new threads! "Trash On Delivery" stands on it's own as something completely unique to itself. A snapshot into a brief space of time when the previous glories of '70s Glam Rock, Punk, & Heavy Metal met in perfect harmony for perhaps the 1st time. Twenty odd years later it remains a perfect sleaze punk record and a guaranteed blueprint for those who'd help further commercialize the scene later in the decade (see The Quireboys, Wolfsbane, Wildhearts, Tattooed Love Boys, & Soho Roses just to name a few.) 

The compilation, put together by Flicknife Records' Frenchy Gloder (also of The Genocides, whose scorcher "Private Hell" is included on the comp) features a hodge podge of classic gems ranging from crash and burn trash rawk of emerging scenesters like the awesome Marionette and The Babysitters to the then present day projects of Post-Punk era upper crusts like The Barracudas, The London Cowboys (Glen Matlock, Barry Jones, & Steve Dior) and ex-Swell Map Nikki Sudden (with his Bible Belt project). Add in some one off gems like Bad Detective's lost power pop classic "Favorite Record", Suffragette's "Do You Want My Love", and "I Heard The Devil" by Little Roosters frontman and future Eastenders TV Celeb, Garrie J. Lammin, as well as the first recorded release of an embryonic Dogs D'amour and Ray Zell cover art, and you've got one primo slab of proto Sleaze Punk! Reissue 1988 by the spanish label Aspa Records." URBAN DOGS - s/t LP 1983

Let's come to another fantastic record, the Urban Dogs debut on Fallout Records. Info: "Instead of moving forward, we retreated and after three consecutive nights at CBGB marking the end of our tour, we flew back to the UK where we had arrived in early 1983, exhausted, discouraged, and fearful for the future of the UK Subs back in London, Charlie and I, eager for a change of scenery, had put together a garage-style line-up with Knox (Vibrators) and Andy McCoy (Hanoi Rock) on guitars, plus Matthew Best (a friend of Captain Sensible) on drums. We toured England as the Urban Dogs, and released an album of boozy covers of old New York Dolls & Iggy Pop & The Stooges classics, in addition with own material. Despite this interesting side project, the question of the future of the UK Subs remained unanswered..." V/A - Captain Oi! Presents Hits 2002

This nice compilation from Captain Oi! Records came for free to an order I made twenty years ago and as you can see, here are only renowned bands present, who set high standards in the early English Punk/Oi! movement and released some numerous classics, which shouldn't be missing in any well-assorted record collection. Seven small treats were specially served to let us know that new stuff is available and that there is no lethargy on the island. A nice idea I think. Especially since you don't always know when new records from your favorite bands are coming out, at least that's how I feel.

U.K.SUBS - She's Not There EP 1979

Best bands ever, and that definitely includes the UK Subs, who have been tirelessly celebrating their driving Punkrock since 1976. This is their third single for Gem and the band's first cover version (She's Not There was recorded by the Zombies in 1964) and reached No. 36 in the U.K. charts. To that, three more crackers, including two non-album tracks and "Kicks" which found its way onto the second album Brand New Age. As many acts on the UK Punk/New Wave scene were either breaking up or going through creative transitions the Subs proved there is still a lively audience for their catchy sound. Enough blah blah, perfect music that I can enjoy anytime.

CHARLIE HARPER - Warhead 7'' 2017

Let's come to a legend and he's been making music for over fifty years: Charlie Harper. English Punk icon and best known as the lead singer of the U.K.SUBS. His first solo album Stolen Property, which he released in 1981, proves that he can do it different by grabbing a few instruments himself. In addition, he founded a side project, Urban Dogs, which is active since 1983. As you can see, this creative mind doesn't get tired and that's a good thing. 'Warhead' is probably the most famous song of the Subs, covered several times by many bands and always up to date and it was time to sew this classic a new dress and this 7Inch is this: 500 copies (yellow blue splattered 150, yellow 175, blue 175) of this brilliant goodie were published by Punkerama Records and brings us the acoustic version, unplugged if you want, of this anthem. The flip has the 'Rebellion Song' from the 2017 Yellow Leader album in the same "quiet" quality. Very nice record and one more expressive side of this exceptionally likeable contemporary. A Must!

U.K.SUBS - Dance And Travel In The Robot Age 1980

We are slowly approaching spring and heating up once again on the penultimate day of March with the next record. Band: UK Subs Charlie (vocals), Nicky (guitars), Paul (bass), Pete (drums), label: Black & White, recorded live @ Milan Palalido, Italy on 16.02.1980. Seventeen rough classics and the recording was made by the late Tracy Crazy, from the Italian combo S.I.B., who also took the photographs used on the cover. Whilst not recorded with the most sophisticated equipment, but "Dance & Travel" captures the Subs at the height of their powers with a blistering set of what would become the classics that are the mainstay of their live performances to this day. The gig in Milan was part of a seven date European tour that the Subs played with the Ramones. Thus all is said, recommended for Punkrockers aged 12+.

LES VERMINES - Bad Childhood 1983

Now to a combo that already appeared sporadically in wdthtc on some compilations: Les Vermines from Rouen, active around 1980-1989. Line-up: White Spirit (vocals), Torchon (guitar), Ted (bass), Daniel (drums) and this is their amazing debut on Rive Gauche Records. Bad Childhood is peppered with eleven superb candy canes. Info: To history and purists, punk has only lasted for a season. In 1977, the death knell had already sounded. This did not prevent the Vermines from continuing the adventure in the 80s with two albums in their own juice worthy of the best English productions of the good era. Adopting the language of the Queen of England, the group doesn't seem to care about this detail of the story and rushes headlong into a punk à la Sex Pistols and Ramones from which they also cover the title Blitzkrieg Bop and Warhead by the UK Subs on this album. The Rouen scene can be proud of these boys and you can convince yourself by the excellent songwriting and the amazingly good quality of these four. Recorded & mixed in twenty-two hours during summer 1983. They left two albums, a 7Inch and a tape for posterity, plus some compilation appearances. Brilliant debut in every way!

U.K.SUBS - Endangered Species 7'' 2018

Belfast based record label Punkerama released this UK Subs slab in a limited edition of 500 copies, spread over three different colours. Endangered Species is the title of the fourth Subs album which was released 1982 and to be honest, I don't know why this 7Inch came out, certainly interesting for collectors, but otherwise the reason remains unclear. But can you blame the boys for it? I don't think so. They have been in the music circus constantly since 1976, with ups and downs, and you can put on a record at anytime and the sound is definitely a worthy end of another virus year. Enjoy two catchy powerful moments!

ETA - Történelmi Nazugságok 2016

💣 Weekend and we'll get a bit exotic and I haven't heard any tone from this band yet. Info: ETA, the name of the band comes from the abbreviation of the Basque terrorist organization (Basque Country and Freedom), was a Punk band founded 1980 in Budapest by Péter (vocals), Viktor (guitars), Róbert (bass), Gábor (drums) and in the beginning they played Hungarian versions of well-known classics by bands like Damned, Agent Orange or U.K. SUBS and released their first tape in 1982 also with own songs. The band was an original force in the Hungarian Punk movement in beginning of the eighties and persecuted by the cultural policy of the time, ETA was an open and total attack on the system by musical means, they couldn't do it for long and so they broke up around 1984. The banned band couldn't release any vinyl at home, but 1984 they made it on the 1984 The Second compilation on New Wave Records and 1985 a song was recorded for the Vilag Lazadoi Harcra Fel EP on Primitiv Cozak. A second tape followed in 1997 and they come back on stage again in Gödör 2010, slowly they picked up speed again and gave one or two concerts a year with ancient fan Zana Zoli on drums. From 2015 the new line-up stands with László (vocals/guitars), Róbert (bass/guitars), Tibor (drums) and Történelmi Nazugságok is the first official ETA album with twenty powerful numbers, which summarizes the band's history classics so far, but also includes new pearls... since then, it's been running, CHEERS! 💣

URBAN DOGS - New Barbarians EP 1982

Time for classic stuff, still fresh and catchy as forty years ago. We're talking about Urban Dogs from London, a collaboration between Charlie Harper (UK Subs) and Knox (The Vibrators) plus Alvin (bass) and Matthew (drums). In 1982 both bands found themselves at a loose end after some lengthy touring. Old friends Charlie and Knox got together and started making some music they shared a common love for. Along with a cover of the New York Dolls and Iggy & The Stooges, they added their own compositions that fitted. A couple of great songs emerged and already their debut EP, released on Fallout Records, is a superb three track Gassenhauer. Five albums have been released to date and I guess that wasn't all.

STEVE ROBERTS - Do You Know Who I Am? 1982

Drummer Steve Roberts (U.K. Subs, Cyanide, Exploited) with his rare solo album, released via The Exploited Record Company. Thirteen typical UK smasher from the early 80s he wrote here (five of them cover versions) and capable musicians support him in the implementation of his musical creations. Not bad the record and a new positive surprise for me. If you like the sound of the bands above you can't ignore this album. Now it's time for the ten o'clock tea.

THE FITS - You Said We'd Never Make It!!! EP 1981

Debut EP of the Fits from Blackpool on Beat The System!! Records with three stamping Oi! Punk smasher and one thing first, I don't know where the third song went and who's got it, please send it to me. Info: The Fits formed in Blackpool in October 1979, with an initial line-up of Mick Crudge (vocals), Andy Baron (bass), Kev Halliday (drums), and "Big" Bill Hughes (guitar). They played their first gig only four days after forming, supporting Section 25 at Bispham Community Centre in Bispham. After four gigs, Big Bill was replaced by Steve Withers.The band's first release was a tape on Beat The System!! in 1980 called "You Named Us Tape" which was really a rehearsal recording with an interview with Bill Gumpy tagged on the end.

The band's first single, "You Said We'd Never Make It!!!" was recorded in June 1980. Local second-hand record shop owner Barry Lights sold it in his shop, and when the initial run of 1.500 had sold out, reissued it on his Beat The System label, the single eventually reaching #2 in the Sounds Punk Chart. Increasing exposure saw the band supporting moreestablished punk bands such as the UK Subs around the UK, and they were signed by the Rondelet label in November 1981. Rondelet issued their second single, "Think For Yourself" on New Year's Day 1982. In March 1982, the band entered the studio to record their album You're Nothing, You're Nowhere. The band were not happy with the album, and Halliday and Baron left the band shortly afterwards, to be replaced by Tez McDonald of One Way System and Ricky McGuire of Chaotic Youth. The new line-up had immediate success with the Last Laugh EP, which entered the UK Indie Chart in December 1982 and peaked at #44.

In 1985 the band broke up but in December 2011, they announced that they were re-forming for a one off gig at the Rebellion Festival in their hometown of Blackpool with a line-up of members through the years including Mick Crudge, Dave Broderick recently and over time a session drummer with various named bands, Ricky McGuire and new member Kerry Waite. Kerry Waite left in 2013 and has been replaced by Swedish guitarist and singer Calle Engelmarc (of The Members, Nigel Bennett Band, 96 Decibels, Feral Ghost and Nicolette Street & The Revs). The band released a 'comeback' record 'Offerings At The Altar' in 2015.

KSU - s/t LP 1989

Debut record by this punx on Pronit and KSU is one of the oldest Polish bands, founded in 1977 in the southeastern town of Ustrzyki Dolne (in the Bieszczady Mountains). According to its founder, Eugeniusz Olejarczyk, the band was the fruit of listening of radio stations from Western Europe, in which several punkrock songs were played. Young listeners from Ustrzyki decided to play covers of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, and in 1978 they came up with the name KSU, which comes from car licence plates, issued by the Krosno Voivodeship authorities for vehicles from Ustrzyki Dolne. With new name came new music - KSU began playing songs inspired by Sex Pistols, Damned, and UK Subs.

In 1980, due to friendship with Kazimierz Staszewski, KSU travelled across Poland to Kolobrzeg, to participate in the New Wave Festival. The band was dubbed a sensation, but soon afterwards its members were one after one called up to the Polish Army and KSU ceased to exist. In 1988 KSU recorded a LP "Pod Prąd" ("Against The Flow"), which was warmly welcomed by its fans. Currently KSU consists of four members, including Olejarczyk. Its lyrics are in most cases written by Maciej Augustyn, the brother of former singer Bogdan "Bohun" Augustyn. A total of twelve albums were recorded and the band's last album Two Nations, released on December 8, 2014 and to my knowledge still active. Thirteen decent songs with a pinch of Oi!

U.K.SUBS - Gross-Out USA 1984

Already the fourth live album of the UK Subs and this one was recorded @ Mc Greevys in Chicago whilst on tour in America during the spring of 1984, released via Fallout Records in two different sleeves; the more common pink on green colour scheme and a more rare green on pink. Line-up on this evening were: Charlie Harper (vocals), Captain Scarlet (guitars), Tezz Roberts (bass), Pete Davies (drums) and they throw seventeen classics among the American punx in an acceptable sound quality. A Subs slab is always a guarantee for a fantastic atmosphere, a good mood and always worth listening to, and the gents are still touring, and that for over forty years now... you shouldn't miss them.

ANTI-NOWHERE LEAGUE - This Is War 7'' 2011

During November 2011, the Anti-Nowhere League along with the UK Subs supported Motörhead on a number of UK dates and after this they came back with this brand new single. Great new song and unique version of 'Good As It Gets' on the backside. Released as limited edition of 500 copies on nice picture vinyl in paper cover with all lyrics and informations. I think, I must not tellin' you more about these UK punk veterans, every album proves their posture and energy heavy sound, so stop useless words and you have to move.
