The second 7Inch from my favorite Portuguese band UHF is a real gem that stands out for its catchy melody and rhythmic structure. UHF, a band that is well-known in the Portuguese scene today, placed a special focus on melodic mid-tempo sound, which is excellently implemented in the title track, a real earworm and still my favorite song. Dynamic with passionate energy and intensity, both songs spray positive vibes into your broken brain. This record is an absolute highlight for anyone looking for a thrilling experience. From the very first second, it captivates listeners and invites them to dance. The powerful beats and dynamic rhythm are a powerful combination that clearly demonstrate UHF's creative talent. They know how to combine different musical styles into a harmonious work that invites you to sing along and dance. The lyrics are inspiring and perfectly capture the feeling of freedom and adventure, making the single an ideal companion for any party or a relaxed evening. The production is particularly noteworthy, as it is clear and powerful and brings out every nuance of the music. The instrumentation is varied and ensures that the tracks never get boring. You can tell that a lot of heart and soul went into the creation of this single. Overall an absolute must for every. It not only promises an entertaining listening experience, but also an invitation to leave the worries of everyday life behind, a great slab that should be on every playlist!

UHF - Persona Non Grata 1982
And one more record from my favorite band from Portugal UHF, and I think this is their third album on Rádio Triunfo records. Info: From this album came the singles "Um Mau Rapaz" (1982), with the unpublished theme on the B-side "Amigos Até Logo", and "Voo Para A Venezuela" (1983) with "Dança De Canibais" on the flip-side.
At the end of the second year, UHF broke the five-year contract with EMI and continued recording with at Rádio Triunfo, a change that covered the headlines of the newspapers at the time, which they would come to regret later. The song "Um Mau Rapaz" reflects, from the title, the psychological climate that surrounded the band, the sincerity translated into rhyme, a consequence of the little attention that EMI gave to the protagonism conquered by UHF. It is the band's most ferociously Rock album, for obvious reasons. Editing the cover of the album provoked a marked instability within the band. In the photograph, António appears isolated on the cover and the other elements on the back cover, fueling speculation of a promotional photo for a future solo career by the singer. They went on tour through France and Germany, in the year in which they totaled eighty-six concerts.
But luckily that didn't happen and despite the clear musical & social difficulties of the time, António, composer and mentor of the band, managed to continue the solid project UHF and in spring 1983, the fourth record Ares E Bares De Fronteira was published and the first edition was sold out quickly. Musically, there are solid Rock tunes that flashes a bit snotty the Punk roots in some songs and is in any case implemented perfect and audible everytime.

UHF - 13.Julho 1990
If there is a post from Portugal, it's usually my favorites from UHF, which always relax me with their melodic harmonic songs. And I really need that. I'm plagued by lumbar pain that you can't imagine, every step, every movement brings me on the verge of a nervous breakdown and if this shit determines the rest of my life, I'll go crazy. Let's see what the orthopedist recommends. A really crappy introduction for here but I have to get rid of it. Well UHF has been around since 1978 and they very popular in their home country, how I got into this band is thanks to KBD Blog who posted their second 7inch many many years ago, since then I've been a fan of their music. So that you can also enjoy further albums, I have re-upped all their stuff on wdthtc and can only warmly recommend the band to you, you will like it, I promise!

UHF - À Flor Da Pele 1981
Endlich das debut by my favourite band UHF, a Portuguese rock band formed in the late 70s, more precisely in 1978, with the formation composed by Américo Manuel (drums), Carlos Peres (bass guitar), Renato Gomes (guitar) and António Manuel Ribeiro (voice & guitar). They were one of the main responsible for the ‘boom’ of the so-called Portuguese rock that emerged in the early 1980s since, until that time, Portuguese publishers did not bet on rock bands that sang in Portuguese, and, tell the truth, Portuguese youth preferred music sung in English. Their music is a mix of powerpop and punk, I would say, and I have highlighted them enough with every post and if you think that's shit then check out the EMI album and convince yourself, a first-class band with fuckin' great music. Perfect for vacation or a beer by the water and all in 320k/Bit! with the single which was only available with the first 10.000 copies of the album, it wasn't sold separately.

V/A - Trip Fixe 1996
August kick off with another compilation from Get Baque Records with rare stuff, this time from beautiful Portugal. Twenty nuggets from 1978 - 1982 and make clear that there was also an excellent underground scene, albeit small, but they wrote heartily variable and refreshing songs and the original 7Inches from which most of the pieces are sourced are hard to get today. Therefore, it is important that music maniacs like us are bringing their collections to the people. Discover new and old well-tried and enjoy the evening sun at the beach with fresh antique music and a cold longdrink!

XUTOS & PONTAPÉS - Toca E Foge 7'' 1982
It's time to pay tribute to a band which makes records since 1981 and I steal all info from wiki because I'm a lazy sack but I just want to mention that this second single is an absolute Hammerteil, two beautiful melodic punky rock songs they recorded here in which the flip surpass the A-side a lot, as ingenious as my favourites UHF:
Xutos & Pontapés are a Portuguese rock band, which got together 1978 in Almadal, four years after the Carnation Revolution restored most freedoms to the country. They started off in the local punk scene and set the trend – singing rock tunes in Portuguese. After three decades of studio and live albums, Xutos & Pontapés continue to be considered Portugal's top rock band, still influencing new generations of Portuguese bands. In 2004, then Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio granted the band a state decoration for twenty-five years of career achievements in the music industry. On 26 September 2009, they played in Lisbon to a packed football stadium, Estádio Do Restelo, to commemorate their 30th anniversary. They played for three hours – each hour marking a decade of their steadily successful career. It was the first time seven screens were used on stage in Portugal. Current members are most of the original line up Tim (bass + vocals), João Cabeleira (guitars), Kalú (drums) and Gui (sax + vocals). Fans refer to the band as Xutos; and Xutos is pronounced 'shootoosh'. Both 'Xutos' and 'Pontapés' are words in reference to types of kicks, but with a twist because the first word when spelled "Chutos" is referred for kick on a ball or object, but here used as "'Xutos", slang for heroin injection, while 'Pontapés' for kicks mainly on people. Founding member and guitarist Zé Pedro died on 30.November 2017, aged 61 (R.I.P.) - One of the surviving bands of the Portuguese rock explosion of the 80s, Xutos & Pontapés have a history of more than twenty years.
I think their sound inspires and pleases you the way I do, Breakfast time.

OPINIÃO PÚBLICA - No Sul Da Europa 1982
Opinião Pública (Public Opinion) was a Portuguese mod punk band from Lisbon and were founded 1981 by Carlos (vocals), Pedro (guitars), Luís (bass + keyboards) and Carlos B. (drums) in the midst of Boom Do Rock Português; the wave of emerging Portuguese rock bands. With the most important combo, the grandiose band UHF, they had a special relationship. They played lots of concerts with UHF and singer António produced their only album. The recordings became possible after an excellent gig @ the band competition of the Festival Só Rock in Coimbra 1981. The group released one 7Inch (Puto Da Rua) & this album, both on Rotação. While the single, similar to UHF's early releases, showed strong influences from Punkrock & Powerpop was the spectrum of the album's songs broader, and included rock and new wave songs. They played more concerts, mostly in the Lisbon area, with bands like Xutos & Pontapés, Rock & Vários and UHF and others. Well, the album was not really successful so the band dissolved in 1982 and some members of the band continued as musicians, Luís plays later in the pop band Entre Aspas. What remains is a beautiful album with ten shallow powerpop nuggets which can help at lovesickness or other personal differences.

UHF - Ares E Bares De Fronteira 12'' 1983
Of course, Portugal is now following and since I don't know many punk bands from the Atlantic state so once again something by my favorite band from Almada. UHF already since 1979 active and very famous in their country, not surprising with their beautiful melodic Power Pop Rock, in their early days with fine punk goodies but increasingly with more ballads which always inspire me. Simply music for beautiful moments together (maybe you have these). This mini-album with five jewels was released via Rádio Triunfo and was made to play loud, I wish you all a sunny sunday and exciting new encounters.

UHF - No Jogo Da Noite (Ao Vivo Em Almada) 1985
This combo is another favourite one which we enjoy very often and they are quite popular in their country and make music to this day. UHF were formed in the late 1970s in Almada by António Manuel Ribeiro (vocals, guitar & keyboard), Renato Gomes (guitar), Carlos Peres (bass) and Zé Carvalho (drums). They have released numerous singles and albums and a complete overview can be found here with a small biography (although in Portuguese). Musically not really punk but they celebrate on this mini-album, recorded live at 23, 24 & 25 of November at the Cultural Center Alfeite in Almada, six decent goodies in forty minutes. The album is released only in order to complete the contractual obligations between the band and Radio Triomphe. Unhappy with the publisher UHF refuse to deliver more original songs and propose the final year of contract recording a live album. Shortly after the release Radio Triumph declare bankruptcy. Renato Gomes, guitarist & founding member, left the band and was replaced by Rui Rodrigues. This is the first live album of the band and remains today as the most rare and expensive record, a gem for collectors. Reason enough listen to!

V/A - Killed By Death #40 1998
Starting September with one more fuckin' cool record and ripping a platter like this needs time and I'm not always in the mood for that. But here we go with another fine work, I am so free, haha.. "Strictly No English Or American Junk" on this release, 500 copies made, Redrum Records, Hell! Although Mister Fredrik has contributed greatly to this with his special contributions to wdthtc. Cheers again to You!!! So this volume does a nice job of featuring bands from places that haven't been covered before and overall the quality is pretty good with a lot of awesome killer tracks. And to be honest, I've not heard any weak KBD sampler and the detectives do once again a brilliant work. "Sid bless the man, who first had the idea to put out records like these."

V/A - R...Is For Records! [Special] 2015
A long, very emotional day comes to an end and I'm pretty exhausted. Besides, I'm fucking tired and I close the post marathon today with one more selfmade compilation. I tried to pack 6½ years and my current feelings in thirty songs and it was not easy but I think the result is delicious and I'm very satisfied. At this point I would like to thank all those who continue to send me music, fine and rare postin' (Hello KBD!), all those who leave a comment or otherwise support me. Life's a Bitch! Tomorrow can be everything different. Remember that. Our time is too short for wasting life. Enough words, music is the language which understands the whole world, so let's go and Good Night!

UHF - Jorge Morreu EP 1979
Beautiful memories and moments with this sound.
1978, in Almada a band of four guys wanting to take revenge on the music. The group was formed by Américo Manuel (drums), Carlos Perez (bass guitar), Renato Gomes (guitar) and Antonio Manuel Ribeiro (vocals, guitar). The group's first concert was on November 20, 1978. This is the first release by our all time fave band UHF from Portugal and the EP 'Jorge Morreu' ('George Died') is about a death by Overdose. "The godfathers of Portuguese rock" played brilliant melodic power/punk/pop songs and they are big stars in their country. At that time UHF has traveled the entire country, and even do the first part of the concerts from the likes of Dr Feelgood and Elvis Costello and then they're in. I love them and if you think I'm crazy so listen to their songs and I'm sure you search this blog for more UHF stuff. A quite delicious sound and We both loved to listen them everytime. There is a second edition released (one year later I think) by this EP with different covers. Enjoy!

UHF - Rua Do Carmo 7'' 1981
Here's a special single of my Portuguese favourite band UHF. "Rua Do Carmo," offers two classics, the A-side is from the album "À Flor Da Pele" and the B-side "(Vivo) Na Fronteira" is an exclusive track. Both songs brings again brilliant pop/punk/rock at its best. I love these guys. If you have the chance to see them live then go out. Damn good record and always in our record player on vacation.
