V/A - Killed By Death British D.I.Y. - Vol.1 1998

I think it's the last KBD Compilation that's missing here and this slab isn't that bad as the title suggests. From Lo-Fi to decent songs, the range is amazingly diverse and anyone who likes things a bit easier will get their money's worth with this cutie. Liner Notes: "Hello & welcome to the newest installment of Killed By Death series. There is now so many, who knows for all of them? So we start over with #1 in an offshoot to pay tribute to all great British D.I.Y. bands from the late 70's & early 80's. Sure everyone to have recordings by SWELL MAPS & TVP'S, but how about the SODS & all the rest of most excellent sounds on this record? We start off with LONDON PX & their classic handclap singalong 'Orders' from '81. Next are two cuts from the fantastic EP 'Deadbeat Revival' by HORNSEY AT WAR which came out in 1979. The PETTICOATS do 'Normal', then it's the MUD HUTTERS with 'Water Torture' off their spazzed out 1979 EP, 'The Declaration'. My mother says they are to sound like Punk version of legendary Stardust cowboy. It's true! PURITAN GUITARS '£100 In 15 Minutes' from their 1980 handstamped Riverside label. The DISCO ZOMBIES did three 45ers I know of, all are to kill for. 'Drums Over London" was the 2nd one I found & was in amazing silscreened wraparound sleeve. The SODS end side one with their organ driven classic 'No Pictures' from 1979 on Stortbeat. FUN 4 were Scottish & drummer Steven Daly later was to be in Orange Juice. Why is this record dedicated to Simon Weisenthal. To much! Another Stortbeat band SPELLING MISSTEAKS follow with 'Popstar'. Do not confuse them w/New Zealand band of the same name. ONE GANG LOGIC ask the question 'Who Killed Sex'? It wasn't me. Maybe you? The ATOMS do the great & goofy 'Beatlejacket'. The wirdo sounds of 012 are next w/'Fish From Tahiti' which is on the Weird Noise comp on Fuck Off Records. SHOES THIS HIGH were from New Zealand not England but they were great. 'The Nose One' is the best from their rare EP. Were they British, they would have made many records for Step Forward. It's true! Now go out, buy fish & chips & bottles of lager & crank this the fuck up. It's great! Thanks to Spider for all help."  That should be enough to make the vinyl interesting and a second part is possible in the foreseeable future, maybe.

I think, it's time for another rare compilation from the grandiose Killed By Death series, today we dedicate ourselves to the 300 copies slab by Teenage Lust Records and meet twenty howlin' punk anthems of 1977-1982. The detectives convince with healthy taste and I think, the mix with well-known classics and pieces that are found somewhere on hard-to-get singles is fucking felicitous. Exact my bottle of Hefe and the right sound for breakfast! Admit, you've been waiting for this a long time...

V/A - British Underground 1977-1982 Vol.2

There are days I really like to sit at the computer and postin' some rare stuff, today is such a day, and let's come to the last cream on this coldy Sunday and it's an unoffical compilation from Chaos Wrecords, released in an edition of 700 hand-numbered copies (I think in 1994) and this fourteen British Underground pieces are certainly not the best of UK punk & wave goodies (in my opinion) but it's another piece of countless bootlegs (it's good that they exist) and the song selection is not bad. I cannot say how I came across this series but it was worth and I bought this record via ebay. I love English punk and with the Disco Zombies and Crisis are two of my favorite bands on it, so bring it on. Of course required Volume 1 and a total of three slabs of this mini-serie were released to date and the last one follows then in 2022. Now enjoy the rest weekend with beautiful music, cold beer and other intoxicating means + the sun.

2.Vital Hours - THE OUTSIDERS
3.Time Tunnel - ENGLISH SUBTITLES
4.Active Repetition - PRODUCT OF REASON

V/A - British Underground 1977-1982

Subtitled as the Best of the UK Punk New Wave. Well, this lies in the eye of the beholder or? Anyway, this small flame is the first Volume of this Mini-Serie and this unofficial release was comin' out on Chaos Wrecords in 1982 and it's full with a decent mix of both music styles. I realize there are a lot of UK comps and this is of course for me great, I love the early UK sound and I'm always fascinate when I get a copy of a record which is brand new, even when I know the songs. Minus points for the loveless design, no inserts, no info. So check the following orange button for details. Was bleibt?, a decent platte with cool and varied stuff. But € 50,- I wouldn't pay for. Have fun with this, Aloha!!

1.Instant Tunes - XTC
2.Cold Beat - THE SOUND
3.Whatever Happened To The West? - ANOTHER PRETTY FACE
4.Adult/ery - THE SCARS
5.Where Were You? - THE MEKONS
6.Damaged Goods - GANG OF FOUR
7.The Missionary - JOSEF K.
8.Let's Submerge (Live 1977) - X-RAY SPEX
9.Drums Over London - DISCO ZOMBIES

11.Spend The Night Alone - FATAL CHARM

GNÄ GNÄ - The Terrible Unexpected Brainstorm 1987

After an interesting afternoon at the Main (Yeah!) and now listen to the Disco Zombies (I Love Those Fuckin' Tunes) live tracks and before the second match SGE - FCA starts a quick post with a nice swiss combo. Here we go: The four-member punk band Gnä Gnä from Basel existed from about 1982 to 1990. They played a noisy mix of pop & punk. Most of the songs have the guitarist Ramon and singer Helen wrote. Steff was on bass and Dani on drums. This band have announced their first gig on 11. September 1982 at the school festival of Holbein Gymnasium in Basel. From then on they were playing regularly, initially in the area of Basel, then in Switzerland, (Zurich, Bern, St. Gallen, etc.). In the spring of 1985 bassist Angelika left the band and Steff came in her place. After that they played also in Germany and Scandinavia. In 1987 they recorded their debut LP on Sick Records and in 1989 appeared on the German label Positive Destruction their second album 'Lost In Time And Space' and a few singles that were also partially split with other bands. Helene left the band in late 1988, and for her came Smada and took the Micro for about one year. Shortly thereafter Gnä Gnä broke up. All members played in the following years in various bands, including Helene until 1999 as back-vocalist for the last album of Touch El Arab. Interesting LP with varied songs and beautiful booklet.

DISCO ZOMBIES - Drums Over London 7'' 1979

I know this 7'' is already posted in many other blogs but the title track is covered by my favourite german punk band EA80 and so for me it is a must to post this pearl here again (for those of you who have not acquaintance with this brilliant band). Founded in Leichester, the band released three singles which are all terrific. This is their second, pressed on South Circular Records. Two nice numbers while the title track is clearly the better one. Get more info about them on the great Drowned In Sound site and I recommend to get the other EP's and the album which came out in 2011 with all the 7inches, unreleased stuff and live shit, maybe you found it anywhere in the web.
