V/A - Life Is A Joke 1984

A collection of Punkrock, Hardcore and high energy noise from around this planet. Yeah, exactly and this is the first part of this mini serie, a total of three compilations exist, shot from the Hamburg label Weird System in the 80s into the orbit. I remember at that time I was interested in the publications of the label and bought a lot of records, together with AGR the most important in Germany for essential punkrock. While AGR put its focus on German bands gave the Hamburger international bands the chance to send their demos to them and connections were established, lots of plenty stuff roll in and so they created some damn cool records with awesome songs/bands which are, in my opinion, nowadays belong to the best ever. Life Is A Joke is full with rare tracks, partly nowhere else published, Volume 2 was released as a limited double LP, all records numbered and the first presses come in colorful vinyl, always in an elaborate artwork, made in Germany!

Redrum Records, you know what this means? Genau, massive rare punk stuff from the early days and now we meet the Hardcore section and this compilation is a great example of nasty bands from every angle of this planet. I quote from back cover: "Welcome to the second installment of Killed By Hardcore. Just like that others series by those useless eaters from hell. This one's already going down hill... to the big money at the end of your wants list. Be warned: all anarchy & violence taken from original vinyls. So if it ain't digital enough you can always listen to disco shit. So bummer bitches, you'll find here explosive material of black small round flat 80s and invite your neighbors and enjoy a hearty BBQ with lots of beer." Twenty-three more on Volume 1 - I wish you all a groovy Sunday and enjoy the music.

V/A - Z Siege EP 1987

A record that was eternally waiting to be digitized is the following little notable complation that came out on Bunker Music and today it is done. Four great speedys: Cólera kick off with an untypical Brazilian one, a solid mid-tempo number with excellent lyrics, we know aggressive tones from the boys, Dunkle Tage from Göttingen with a live track, very dynamic and fast but I can't still warm with them, not my case. WDM from Finland is rather my taste, uncompromising Hardcorepunk with fat sound and an exclusive track, not on their 7Inches include. Rounded off by the Bingener metalpunk combo Circle Of Sig-Tiü which tell us what they think about Germany, a real blast and I can only agree with them, thirty years later and nothing has changed, aahhh.. I love their dirty rough sound. They made three good records and came to an end in 1988. Now one more Jever and ripping another slab and you grab this first-class EP before the sun goes down.

1.Somos Vivos - CÓLERA
2.Nehmt Euer - DUNKLE TAGE
3.The Key - WDM
4.Third Reich In Disguise - CIRCLE OF SIG-TIÜ

GAROTOS PODRES - Mais Podres Do Que Nunca 1985

Back early in the morning and the weekend is approaching...finally, I'm honestly exhausted by the last days and need rest. And before this working day begins a short trip across the Atlantic to Garotos Podres, a Brazilian punk rock band that was formed 1982 in the municipality of Mauá, in the metropolitan area of São Paulo. Influenced by the punk rock bands of the late 70's and early 80's, at that time Brazil was at the height of the punk movement in the country and several bands arose mainly in large urban centers. This is their debut album on Rockers Produções with eleven decent Oi! hits and I love the minimal distorted Brazilian guitarknarz, brilliant record. More info in the file. Have a nice day and enjoy the music.

INOCENTES - Adeus Carne 1987

So, one is still going and we cross the atlantic and stop in São Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil. The Inocentes were formed 1981 and with their first record Miséria E Fome, released 1983, they get my full attention. Two of the four tracks appeared on the Life Is A Joke compilation via Weird System and both are fuckin' killers (I think you know the songs) but first they contributed four smasher on the Brazilian comp. Grito Suburbano from 1982. During their first incarnation in the first half of the 1980s, the band played basic energetic and politically charged hardcore punk. This record is their first full length on WEA and unfortunately not so aggressive as in their early days, a pity. But the gentlemen are very active and have continuously produced albums and are still alive. Not a bad album but I would have wished more hardcore.

V/A - Grito Suburbano 1982

An absolute number one Hardcore platte is this 'short' compilation from South America which appeared on Punk Rock Discos and became rightly several times re-released on CD and Vinyl. The Créme de la Créme of this genre is represented here, three bands, twelve killers. At the moment I hear lots of fast & aggressive music and with this record of course I can blast my fucking mind out (you will certainly agree)! It's not my rip, nevertheless, always a post worth. CÓLERA - Tente Mudar O Amanhã 1984

Tente Mudar O Amanhã (Try Changing Tomorrow) is the debut album of the Brazilian punk band Cólera, released in 1985 on Ataque Frontal Records and it's the secomnd release from this label. Formed in 1979 in the Capão Redondo district by brothers Edson 'Redson' Pozzi (guitars + vocals) and Carlos "Pierre" Pozzi (drums + vocals), accompanied by Val (bass). Cólera would become one of the bands of greater longevity in the Brazilian punk scene. Their lyrics clearly adressed about the cold war, with songs appeal to end the arms race, led by the US and Soviet Union. In addition, the letters talked about urban violence and the indifference of the authorities.Their sound is fast, sometimes melodic, and the lyrics aim to subjects like peace, liberty, animal liberation, love, politics and environmentalism. It's an album that, due to its pacifist message, influenced and continues to influence punks in Brazil and around the world. Sadly, Edson “Redson” Pozzi died 2011 at 49 years old of internal bleeding caused by an ulcer. So let's open your heart & ears for twenty superb Punk goodies!

V/A - The End Was At Hand [Special] 2012

This nice comp was created by my Austrian mate Reinhard (at that time for the legendary, much-loved WildDevilRules blog). Cause was the general hysteria the world would end in 2013, according to the Mayas and well, it's doomsday and I wonder why all these spinners in poor hippie clothes such an uprising practice. The world goes down slowly and not otherwise. I must confess, I did not much notice of a new Apocalypse and honestly I don't give a shit. I demand doomsday as a public holiday where we all not must work. Maybe the Mayas sacrificed more people that day as usual. Well fuck it, the masses needs always some shit where they can hold on to, funny that it's always at the turn of the year, has almost become a tradition. Idiots!!! Not only this was the occasion for my Austrian friend Reinhard to create this self-made compilation here but also to put his favorite songs in a splendid selection on a CD, adorned with a glossy cover. And the result is great, brilliant punkrock from all corners of the world in beautiful order. Great Stuff!! A few words from Mr. Reinhard to the CD:

"Seems that armageddon didn't happen yet - so what shall we do now?? ;-) To celebrate this suprising fact I've compiled a sampler with songs I really like - hopefully you'll like them too. So this one's for you survivors - have fun & all the best! ...and of course: any comments are highly appreciated!"

I hope you enjoy this exclusive gem and may you create your own sampler at the next pay raise, volcanic eruption, child birth, flood, castration, lung cancer, be in love and don't forget: the next end of the world comes certainly....

LIXOMANIA - Violência & Sobrevivência EP 1982

Last for today, a fresh EP with classic KBD stuff. Lixomania was a punk rock band from Brazil, formed 1979 in Sao Paulo by Adauto "Ada" (bass), Tikinho (guitar & vox) and Zú on (drums), they started playing in the late 70s, mainly influenced by early UK Punk heroes Sex Pistols, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, UK Subs, etc...they become one of the first Brazilian punk-bands and also released one of the first punk records. After some years in practice Lixomania made their first presentation at a meeting of unheard punk bands with only three songs in their repertoire and they played an awesome show, on the same day other pretty punk bands like Inocentes, Colera & Olho Seco showed up. Today all their records are classics. 1982 they released this record (their only one) with 6 brilliant punk smashers and they appear on the O Começo Do Fim Do Mundo compilation LP with a very badly recorded song - it was recorded on a walkman! A lot of gigs followed and Lixomania was the first punk band to play outside of Sao Paulo state and in March 1983 the band split and than later changed their name to 365 and became a new wave band. 365 still exists today. Review: "Lixomania sound a bit like some of the better new English bands, but with an edge and vocal rawness more reminiscent of Finnish groups. There's one thrasher and a bunch of mid-tempo punk songs covering themes like punk not dying, massacres of innocent people, etc. The lyrics are in Portugese, the language of Brazil." - Tim Yohannon (from Maximum Rock'n'Roll #5, March/April 1983)

- Special Thx to Reinhard -
