One of Chicago's oldest and longest-running punk bands: The Effigies. Formed in early 1980 they played its first show in 1980 and was active for approximately a decade, undergoing multiple personnel changes with frontman John Kezdy the only constant, before disbanding in 1990. The band released five albums and several EPs, most on the record label they founded in 1981, Ruthless Records, which was distributed by Enigma. Later albums were on the Fever Records and Roadkill Records labels. This is their 3rd EP with four good ole school smasher.
I saw them in 2005 or so and feature the title track on my old youtube channel before three copyright strikes and second channel take-down so I know they still play time to time. Title track is also first I ever heard them on the old MRR weekly community radio program back when it was a new release and have loved the band ever since. Happy New Year and Merry Christmas old friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much,Have a nice pre-Xmas days;)
ReplyDeleteThe first time I ever heard an Effigies song was at their reunion show at The Empty Bottle in Chicago at the suggestion of several friends of mine. I did not grow up in Chicago like they did. Glad they convinced me to go. Saw them probably 5x including that show. They were great. The CD they put out as part of the reunion period was very good. Then, they just seemed to disappear again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this! I'll have to catch up via email someday soon. Cheers, Mark
