TAUGADEILDIN - s/t EP 1981

Now a rare piece from the far north of Europe by Taugadeildin. One of those bands that managed to release an EP during the punk & new wave hype around the early Eighties, but they didn't exist for long like many other bands of that era.
Formed originally as duet when bassist Árni and singer Óskar began playing music together with help by a drummer in autumn of 1980, but soon guitarist Arnór (Fræbbblarnir) joined them. Arnór was then replaced by Óðinn and Þorsteinn also joined the band as Keyboarder plus Kormákur (drums) and new singer Egill. Their music is a kind of late post-punk mixed with punk roots and a fuckin' journalist defined them as ska band, you guess its members didn't want to know more, this stupid fool. In spring 1981, Taugadeildin recorded this four track EP, released via Fálkinn (in small editions), and it shows the very strong playing and good beats of the four and the record received mostly positive feedback. They performed at the music festival "Another Sound In The Drum", which was held during summer, in addition to being one of the bands who were opener for the British band Any Trouble. The lifespan of Taugadeildin comes to an end, and by the time the record was finally released in autumn after some delays, they retired. These days the record is as rare as solid honest politics and a great collector's item. The music of the Neurology Clinic have been forgotten a little. Her Longing (which was their most well-known goodie) was released on the Northern Light Playhouse compilation, also released via Fálkinn in 1981 (shortly after the band's release) and was supposed to promote Icelandic new wave & punk music abroad, and two songs became later a place on two tapes (Pönksafn) by Erðanúmúsik and a worthy tribute on Bloodstains Across The World #4Four magical songs remain at the end and the slab can be purchased for a mere € 600, a real bargain!

FRÆBBBLARNIR - Viltu Bjór Væna? 1996

Now a fuckin' rare and awesome post and it's really difficult to get records or anything else from Fræbbblarnir, a Scandinavian band which were formed in 1978 and released a number of records until they quit early in 1983. A punk band playing short, melodic songs fast and raw, they were inspired by the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Damned, Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias, Stiff Little Fingers and the rest of the early Punk and New Wave scene, as well as 1960s bands like the Kinks and Troggs. They appeared in the documentary Rokk í Reykjavík, and the album “Viltu Nammi Væna?” is regarded as a classic. Its members continued playing on and off under various names until a compilation album was released by Smekkleysa (Bad Taste) in 1996, when the original band was re-formed. The band is still active and their record “Í Hnotskurn”, released in 2015 got excellent reviews, an album of the year for veteran critic Halldor Ingi Andresson and top reviews without exception. This re-release on CD from 1996 came via Smekkleysa (Bad Taste) and offers the album "Villtu Nammi Væna" with the addition of the 7Inches "Bjór" and "False Death", Out-Takes from the recording of VNM and some great live recordings as bonus. A great CD with thirty-eight catchy and dirty Killers!!

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World 1999

Amazing assortment of rare stuff from around the world on this Bloodstains compilation and it is truly remarkable where all finest punk rock was celebrated. When the songs have been recorded no one takes care and the bands disappeared quickly in the vast ocean and today their 7inches are highly sought and fuckin' costly. Crazy World or ???? Anyway, without www and music junkies around the world we never came in touch with those goodies. This record proves that. The only deficit here: The covers are cheap photocopied foldovers and no info sheet enclosed. Well fuck it, the music is excellent.

V/A - Rokk Í Reykjavík 2LP 1982

Rokk í Reykjavík was the soundtrack to the Icelandic TV documentary directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson during 1981-82 winter and released in 1982. The soundtrack, which was released in April 1982 as a double LP released through Hugrenningur, features the performances of several Icelandic bands of the post punk/New Wave scene. Bands such as Þeyr, Tappi Tíkarrass (a band led by singer Björk), Egó, Purrkur Pillnikk (with Einar Örn Benediktsson as the front-man), among others, were considered some of the most important bands at the moment, exclusively live material.
