BLUMEN AM ARSCH DER HÖLLE - s/t LP 1992

Blumen Am Arsch Der Hölle was a punk band from Hamburg, which existed from 1991 to 1994. The original lineup consisted of Jens Rachut (vocals), Andrew Ness (guitar), Knoop (bass) and Mark Wills (drums) and was the sequel of Angeschissen and Das Moor. Later band members Björn (bass), who later founded the combo Motormuschi and Martin (guitar) from the Kiel Band Go Ahead. Blumen am Arsch der Hölle went on and re-named in Dackelblut, Oma Hans and Kommando Sonne-nmilch. Through countless concerts and would not last through a strict commitment to the band for the preservation of the vinyl ("Death Of Shit! Death Of The CD!"), they quickly earned a great Fanbase. Songs like "z.B. L'Age Poly'Dor", "† 15.7.1991" or "Stumph" are quasi the character, the figurehead and still brilliant. Words beyond all the clichés, music that is both rough and warm and so far removed from German punk as just conceivable - and still has German lyrics and is pure punkrock. By the way; they adored the song "1976" by the Boxhamsters and covered this respectable and it's the ultimate statement about punk.

The band released only one full-length in 1992 on Buback Tonträger. A cover version of Blondies song "Picture This" was performed with Snuff singer Duncan and Shaun of Wat Tyler. In 1994 the group broke up after founding member Marc Wills announced them to leave, Dackelblut was born and the madness went into the third round. A re-release of the debut came in 2000 which was remastered by Frank Stubbs (Leatherface) and engineer Tom Meyer and includes a 20-second bonus track as a tribute to the deceased founding member Marc Wills. To celebrate the re-release the band played with Kurt drummer Armin Nagel three exclusive concerts.

DUNCAN REDMONDS - Bubble & Squeak 2009

Original front runner Duncan Redmonds of Snuff / The Toy Dolls / Billy No Mates is releasing his solo project "Bubble & Squeak" on World Records in 2009. This 22 song compilation features the likes of Snuff, NoFX, Leatherface, Hardskin, NoMeansNo, Guns N Wankers and MORE! "Recorded at many places and in front rooms, back rooms, kitchens, office rooms and the odd studio. Because of this the recordings are sometimes lo-fi but the important thing was to catch the songs any way possible. The project was started in 2004 by handing out a load of riffs to people met over the years touring and playing with Snuff and asking them to add their ideas to them. Then finished in 2008 when Jools picked up his bass and shouted a few short sharp profanities. Sometimes it was the other way around and riffs were offered, sometimes melodies were suggested and a lyric fitted to it, sometimes old songs were reworked and sometimes new songs jammed out, all topped off with a Donovan cover and a mix by Nick Philpin in Kilburn NW London." (Duncan Redmonds) - Rocks perfectly!

ANGESCHISSEN - @ Hamburg/Störtebeker 21.12.1994

Here is an amazing live recording from Angeschissen, a Hamburg combo which existed from 1984 to 1988 and they were one of the influential and stylistic punk bands of the Hamburg scene in the 80s and consisted of: Jens (vocals), Christian (guitars), Daniel (bass) and Stephan (drums + vocals). Christian was guitarist of Slime from 1980 until his first dissolution, where he had played together with Stephan; he was also drummer of Torpedo Moskau. Both brought hardcore punk into the style that hit American influences like Wipers and Rites Of Spring. In addition to singer Jens, Stephan also wrote some of the lyrics. The musical style of the band can be described as powerful dirty snotty melodic punkrock which is, in my opinion, live more intense and dynamic as on plate. In 1987 they released their first EP 'Angst Macht Keinen Lärm' via Buback. A year later comes the first longplayer, Angeschissen, with twelve goodies out and it was exclusively as vinyl record released. Then the band was supported by the studio guitarist Atli Grund and a split slab with Rachut's second band Das Moor came out also in 1988, shortly after the band was carried to the grave. In 1997 the Hamburger label Schiffen released a double album with all the recordings, this time also on CDFollow-up projects by Jens were then Blumen Am Arsch Der Hölle, Dackelblut, Oma Hans and Kommando Sonne-Nmilch. So this is an excellent live document in a very good quality and I saw them a few times and I like to remember their great, impulsive and funny performances. Their only important compilation contributions are on the great Hamburg '88 album by Bitzcore.

DACKELBLUT - Fluten & Tauchen 1997

Now an older rip and some of you may be familiar with the sound of Hamburg's Dackelblut, sprouted from the rest of the seeds of Blumen Am Arsch Der Hölle, which in turn were the successor band to the legendary AngeschissenWith a slightly different line-up, the band consisted of Jens (vocals), Andreas (guitars), Wieland (bass), Heiner (drums) and this is their second & last album on Schiffen Records. In terms of lyrics, haunting everyday observations are written in witty words and musically packed in brilliant perfection. As with the debut, Frankie Stubbs managed to give the songs the right polish. All records of the band are only available on vinyl and in 2022 the complete discography (two albums & one single) were re-released as a double LP which I can only recommend (buy here). Fluten & Tauchen has thirteen great, cynically refreshing Punkrock attacks that hardly any other combo can write and anything but botched! A very good record that shouldn't be miss in any decent collection.
