ANDROIDSS - Getting Jumpy 7'' 1981

Formed as Lincoln Road Loonies in 1978 but soon they changed their name. Getting Jumpy is the one & only record by the Androidss from Christchurch on Ripper Records. The band consisted of Steve (vocals/guitar), Frankie (bass), Mark (keyboards), Neil & Mark (guitars), Eric (drums) and were named after Phillip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? (did someone read that?). Three songs we have in this post, the third I added as a small bonus to show you what a great energetic live band they were. Auckland Tonight is undoubtedly their known piece and always gladly seen on numerous compilations. Sad news at the end: Steve died in 2009 and Eric in 2011, commemorate both while listening to this little nugget.

V/A - It's Bigger Than Both Of Us 2 LP 1988

Excellent kiwi release of this essential two record compilation from 1988 covering an extremely creative and buoyant period of New Zealand alternative/punk & pop music between 1979 - 1982 where music of the more "indie" nature really made an impression on the hearts, minds and souls of legions of real music maniacs. So the thirty tracks we get great hits from the likes of The Spelling Mistakes, The Clean, Screaming Meemees, No Tag, Blam Blam Blam, Proud Scum and more other great bands and a number of lesser known but equally thrilling out fits. Lovingly compiled and basing the set purely around singles really gives the listener a feel for the time and era, and a number of these tracks genuinely shaped the sound of New Zealand underground music for many years to come. Even with the current renaissance in 'historical' New Zealand pop compilations this set stands head and shoulders above the rest simply because of its focus and the era covered. This is an essential purchase for any New Zealand music fan.

V/A - Killed By Death #15 2018

After a long break there is a new compilation of this cheap series out: #15 with rare New Zealand punk 1977-1982. Well, I think a bit superfluous because most of the songs can be heard on other good compis and really 'new' stuff is not present. I don't want complain and of course it's good that someone puts its 7Inches together and it is important but a little more unknown from countries that are extremely difficult to get would not be wrong, right? Anyway, for all newcomers recommended.

1.Megaton - SUBURBAN REPTILES
2.Born To Bullshit - SCAVENGERS
3.Suicide II - PROUD SCUM
4.Short Haird Rock & Roll - TERRORWAYS

12.Escape From Hell - DUM DUM BOYS

V/A - Rip Shit Or Bust! 12'' 1983

A fine little 12inch from Kiwi territory with six guns on it, released via Ripper Records. A small selection of songs that have already been released as singles and today are rare and expensive. The Instigators track stands a bit out here: perfect driving mid-tempo punk with female vocals and saxophone (this is more in the background) and good lyrics, rulez like hell. Overall a great little compilation which brings fifteen minutes of joy!

1.Short Haired Rock'n'Roll - TERRORWAYS
2.Getting Jumpy - ANDROIDSS
3.Reena's Piss Flaps - SPELLING MISTAKES
4.Hope She's Alright - INSTIGATORS
5.Can't Take It - SCREAMING MEE MEES
6.Police Wheels - PRIMMERS

V/A - Kiwi By Death (NZ Punk Rarities 1977-1983) 2010

Hello March and we stay in Oceania and come to new old stuff from an pseudo "label" which made limited CD-R compilations in very small editions (mostly 50 copies & with a small but useful booklet) with rare Punk classics worldwide. As you can easily see, this edition is dedicated to the musical orgasms of New Zealand, and most of the songs are almost all represented on other relevant compis and you can ask, who needs that? I would say why not. Since most of the slabs are no longer accessible (as a side note, many records are offline, at least in my blog) and the selcetion is different as well and I can promise you, this one is high explosive! I like the music from there and the scene was pretty broad with good bands and I recommend you visit audioculture for more infos about New Zealand's subculture.
