PLAN NINE - I Ain't No Robot EP 1981

Excellent EP by Plan Nine on Aura Records with four fat rockin' numbers. 2018 re-issued by Supreme Echo in a limited edition of 500 copies with two unreleased demo cuts plus a booklet with flyers, photographs and the band’s story. Info from them for you: Canadian prairie Punk by the three King brothers who moved out from Toronto in the fall of 1980 to become one of Calgary’s earliest on the scene! The late Bob King’s whitty and thought provoking socio-political lyrics transformed from bedroom acoustic songs into a flurry of wild wah-wah fuzz and shredding guitars with over tones of power-pop and hard rock. Canada’s “praries” are the equivalent to the USA’s “mid-west” and the sound of this EP is exactly that! Imagine Devo & The Gizmos as Canadian Punkrockers. - Great Stuff!

ZEB & THE FAST ONES - Raggare Beware + 1 EP 1983

One more highlight from Sweden today with Zeb & The Fast Ones from Linköping and they released two incredible 7Inches in the early Eighties on Eugen Records. And Ola tells you a bit about the band that is captured on B-Sound which I of course reproduce here for you lazy bitches: "This is the story about Zeb & The Fast Ones as I can remember it. All I will tell has hopefully happened and it is in fairly right order as I remember it. You should remember that it was over seventeen years since Zeb and the fast ones were active, so to you who think you can the history better I hope you will overlook. Spring 1983, Zeb were established by Ola (vocals), Lärm (guitars), Martin (bass) and Ove (drums). All members had known each other since nine-year compulsory school. With just a pocketful of own songs and some cover we made our live entrance the summer 83 on an outdoor event in Valla. With about the same number of tunes the band did enter Bosses studio the fall 83 to record what became our first single Raggare Beware. After this a number of plays at home ground. Especially was a play at Kvinnebygården when we entered the stage without guitarist, not the worlds most successful concert but it was appreciated by all who at this time liked experimental music. Zeb & The Fast Ones did also manage the trick to go outside Linköping.

Sometime the winter 83/84 the way was to Stockholm and the famous stage Tre Backar. We were the last band on stage this evening and the arranger cut the power just after a pair of tunes, not exactly what we had expected. A play same winter in Jönköping resulted that we got the opportunity to be warm-up band to Peter and the test tube babies. 6. June 1984 we entered the stage in Jönköping’s cultural art center accordingly for the biggest audience we ever should meet. If we had been some older and more experienced we should certainly solve this mission better, but as I remembered the play (or the little I remember) we mangle as possessed by a devil and then the result was accordingly. Well, 1984 was a delicious time and to Jönköping many of that times celebrities as Black Flag, G.B.H, Adicts and Johnny Thunders. It was also at that time the second Zeb single was recorded. If it was at the spring or the autumn I cannot say. Worth to be mentioned about the second recording was that Bosse had become tired of our huge consumption of medium-strong beer and gave us the advice to drink strong spirits then it should result in a lower amount of empty bottles.

On autumn 1984 also a second guitarist was recruited named Finken and the time with him was however very short. The tune writing accelerated autumn 84 but the writing of lyrics didn’t. At a concert on Arbis with its fine old traditions (as warm-up for the Vibrators) certainly 3-4 tunes lacked a real text. This caused me and also Martin change our roles. Thus I started to play bass and Martin began to sing. It showed to not work either and the consequence was that Martin left the band in spring '85. Myself I throw in the towel after an outdoor concert in Trädgårdsföreningen the summer 1985.

Some time a wise man said probably: "If you want to quarrel with your mates you should establish a punk band". Exactly this happened Zeb & The Fast Ones. The personal chemistry might not have been the best from the beginning and the fact that all members had different opinion on how seriously you should look at things did not make the situation better. Anyway we were a Punk band in the crowd, not better than or worse than anybody else and the memory still lives as a batch of wear singles as from time to time change owner on some vinyl fair. We had our moments and I still remember this period with happiness."

So folks, many thx to Ola for his authentic impressions and now: ENJOY!

AOOUH! - The Lost Tape EP 2016

Rare stuff by this Swedish combo from Stockholm and Aoouh! never made anything on vinyl, memberes were Mats (vocals), Hans & Stellan (guitars), Björne (bass), Mikael (drums) and this goodie came in 250 handnumbered copies via the Spanish Ghost Highway Recordings label. Side A was recorded on 13.12.1978 at Polyvox Studios/Stockholm, Side B recorded live 04.05.2013 at the BFH. This record was a "Fuck Cancer" release and the money of the selling of this slab will go to the cancer research and was made in memory of Stellan who died of cancer in 2012. Not much is known about the band and the internet does not provide any information either, but musically they are in the top league and are certainly one of those who, probably due to tragic circumstances, did not manage to raise any money to record a 7Inch, or they were a short-lived momentum, who knows. So it's even better that the few songs they recorded have been dug up and pressed onto a small piece of vinyl for us KBD maniacs, to enjoy. Nice record in every way!

PARAÍSO - Para Ti 7'' 1980

Paraíso was short-lived New Wave combo formed in the late Seventies, led by Fernando El Zurdo (former member of Kaka De Luxe). After the dissolution in fall 1981, El Zurdo founded a new group a year later, La Mode, together with Antonio Zancajo (guitar) and Mario Gil (keyboards). They were the first declared pop group of the Madrid scene, although didn't achieve the success of Alaska Y Los Pegamoides, Nacha Pop, Los Secretos or Radio FuturaTheir first gig was on March 28, 1979 @ the Martín Theater, although they had previously performed under various names. Although they didn't have a quality live sound live (they never had a professionell management or stable reheasal rooms) they played in public on more than forty occasions, most of the big events and emblematic places of the Madrid underground scene together with renowned New Wave bands of the time, some were broadcast on radio and television.

They recorded a 7Inch which came via the Zafiro label in October 1979 to light & this two goodies should serve as a delicious taster of an album with twelve songs that was already in preparation (the demos recorded since February), but due to disagreements with the record company it would not be published. This album has circulated unofficially among connoisseurs of the Madrid scene and attempts have been made on several occasions to remaster and publish it, the first time by Lemuria records in 2015 but the result was not accepted by the group, the definitive one came then in February 2020 by Munster Records that found the support of them and bears the title The Final CutIn June 1980 they recorded four new songs which were later released through Nuevos Medios in 1983, a semi-pirate EP (since they were still under contract with Zafiro). On October 2, 1980, in the Sala Sol, the Farewell to Paraíso took place (the first), followed in March 1981 in Caminos by the final, in which Paraíso performed as a quartet (El Zurdo, Antonio, Mario & Paco) and songs were already included, which later belonged to the repertoire of La Mode together with the main pieces of Paraíso.

Paraíso was characterized by eclectic pop, provocative lyrics and a very extensive and varied live repertoire. Their most famous song, Para Ti, was included on many compilations and has in some ways become an anthem of the period.

BEYOND POSSESSION - Tell Tale Heart EP 1985

I put the metal label here, although the band started out as solid Hardcore/Punk maniacs and I also had their first full length from 1986, but had to give way due to financial resentments (really annoyed me) and now rediscovered and before the SGE hopefully get three points against Bochum today, here & now their first EP with six smashin' cocktails on Rooter Records and I coerce you with littles info from somewhere: Beyond Possession is a band of conviction, and its members refuse to have their names published. Their leader fears it would detract from the group’s identity. The group’s name is taken by man to imply an association with Satan and the demonic hype with which heavy-metal bands often flirt. Not so, say the members of Beyond Possession: rather, they claim they are beyond being possessed by ego and material goods. An American and a Soviet flag hang in the band’s house. “We don’t lick anyone’s boots,” says one. A skateboarding tune they wrote and recorded has been distributed on a Skaterock album. Band members say they oppose both the NeoNazi sentiments of Punk and the blatant commercialism of heavy metal; their music is a hard-core-punk-&-heavy-metal fusion, a compromise that can be appreciated by both the thrashers and the headbangers.

Their nameless and energetic leader works hard to keep alternative music alive in community halls around town. They’ve got day jobs and sink all their money back into the band. They travel. They just got back from an 18-state tour on which they peddled a few home-spun records and made a few waves. Insulted by a condescending announcer on a San Francisco radio show, the DJ had had the audacity to ask inane questions about Canadian weather, the band was forced to fill the mike with rude noises. Beyond Possession confide that “he didn’t ask us about our music.” So dear folks, just a quick fuck and then let's go!

DIE RADIERER - In Hollywood 1983

A lot has already been written about the next combo in the Blog and their first records are also present in this theater. Today the second album of die Radierer from Limburg, probably the oldest Post-Punk band in Germany. With a dry beat, jingling melodies and a dadaistic concept, the legendary band has been sawing away from conventions and constants since it was founded in 1978. Whether it's electronic music, guitar sounds or children's instruments, the noisy avant-gardists mix pretty much everything they can get their hands on in order to destroy the myth of rock music with their anarchic NDW hybrid. In Hollywood was again released via ZickZack Records and the original isn't easy to get for little money, my copy is from a CD which I bought on a reunion Gig in Frankfurt years ago. Well, not light fare but essential and an important part of German underground music.

ROCKS - Final Assault 12'' 1988

Bill (vocals/guitars), Peter (bass), Nasser (drums), better known as Rocks which formed in Sydney 1976 and this is their last 80s output on Waterfront Records with four decent numbers. Rocks broke up in June 1978. The band has reunited several times since with different drummers and this 12Inch is the product during this period. This line-up recorded two years later the cool Combat Zone album and since then they've been touring here and there and their last release is twenty years ago, a split EP with San Francisco buddies the Loudmouths from 2000 on 702 Records, featuring two songs by each band. That's it for now, let's see if I'll take a look again today. Weather is sunny, beer is cold, mood is brilliant and Bundesliga is tomorrow, chances are good & remember: "In the end everything will be fine. If it doesn't turn out well, it's not the end yet." Cheers!

TOY DOLLS - Fat Bob's Feet 1991

I think it's time for a record that makes clear: Don't take life too serious! Go through with humor and considering the stupid and uninspired crisis in Europe, this stuff is an excellent contribution to this. Bob's stinky feet is the eighth album by the Toy Dolls from Sunderland on Rebel Records and it's one of the more popular slabs by them and included such favourites Bitten By A Bed Bug, The Sphinx Stinks or Kids In Tyne & Wear (a beautiful cover of the Kim Wilde classic), one most often covered songs by many Punk combos. This album is a rare late Toy Dolls album that doesn't contain any classic/symphony instrumental adaptation. Fourteen fresh decent songs have Olga & Co. created here who just are fun and show how essnetial music can be and I must admit, the first full length I've heard by them. I always thought they were too funny for me, but in times like these is this album a welcome alternative.

RAZZIA - Spuren 1991

With their fourth album Razzia came back to their roots and leave the keyboard at home and wrote thirteen fantastic goodies shortly after the reunification of Germany, who express their feelings in entangled lyrics but musically tie in with the first album (Sören also left the band during the production of the album, but continued to contribute to the creation of lyrics and bass tracks. His successor on bass was Christian Both). It's a refreshing one that's more relevant than ever and amazing that singer Rajas has no songwriting credits, all written by the musicians which I think is extraordinary. Short info: Razzia was founded in Hamburg 1979 by brothers Andreas (guitar) and Peter Siegler (drums) and Rajas (vocals). The first line-up was completed by Sören (bass) and Frank (guitar). Unlike Slime, however, Razzia were not a purely politically motivated Punk combo and in the lyrcs, abuses of all kinds were formulated in a very rough and cynical way and implemented very aggressively in the early years. Spuren is a fantastic record with catchy songs and an excellent example how an versatile band come back mercilessly and kick your ass ruthlessly. Absolutely suitable and a solid Razzia record!!!
