THE FIX - Jan's Rooms EP 1982

A quick post for the weekend: The Fix with their second and final 7Inch on Touch and Go Records with four goodies. The band was formed in March 1980 in Lansing, Michigan by Steve (vocals), Craig (guitar), Mike (bass) and Jeff (drums). They played on several prominent bills with many other notable punk bands before breaking up in early 1982. A review: The Fix have finally returned from their successful tour of Texas, California (SF in particular) and the Northwest. They played the much publicised Eastern Front in Fresno, and did some recording at Black Flag's studio with Spot. I've heard the tape and the improvement in sound over their single has to be heard to be believed. It's frightening that they should sound so good. They celebrated their return with an amazing gig at Rick's American Cafe in East Lansing. Not the best surroundings (tiny, carpetted dance floor and a benignly mellow atmosphere) for their unsubtle brand of punk. Aggressive, uncompromising, violent--nobody does it better. An overpowering onslaught that literally rips the fixtures from the ceiling...the best in Michigan. I did get a bug up my ass about some self-appointed goons, taking it upon themselves to protect the band from the flailing throng on the danve flood. I trust The Fix had nothin' to do with it, cuz this will sure as shit cause bad blood among their fans if they did. Brawny assholes grabbing people & pushing 'em back into the mass of slamming bodies, appearing to take great pleasure in the ability to police the stage. Just an excuse to throw their weight around. Steve told them to stop and leave us alone, but no, they had to have more. One of 'em got his kicks from punching girls; challenge him to step outside and he runs, only to return to throw bottles froma speeding car. Am I fool to say I hope we won't encounter any more of this gestapo brutality at future Fix shows. We sure hell don't need it. (Dave Stimson, Discords, September 1981) - Sounds Good? .... Is Good!

PORNO CASSETTES - Your Face, A Fucking Disgrace 7'' 1983

Heresy Records had the pleasure of pressing the only single by the Porno Cassettes from London, 100 copies made. Approximately 40-50 copies were rumored to have been thrown in the trash by Heresy after a move in the later 1980's. The band consisted of Stan (vocals), Jacko (guitar), The Dean (lead guitar), Niggs (bass), Paul (drums) and probably dissolved shortly after it appeared. Thereon two real cracker, the A-side is already guest on the Bloodstains Across The World #4 and the full 7Inch on Bored Teenagers Vol.8 compilation from 2015. That's it with information and maybe another tartlet follows afterwards.

LUCIE CRIES - Res Non Verba 1993

Lucie Cries is a gothic rock band from Mouy, France, that formed in 1988 and broke up in 1996. Useless info: "When contrasted against the background of the end of the uneasy decade that the French 80s' cold-wave scene had gone through, Olivier (vocals & bass) stands as a benchmark. Echoing its agony in a barely perceptible moaning, cold-wave sounded to slowly die out. His strong independence, his integrity in art and his unsensible pugnacity must be praised. With his band Lucie Cries; Frédéric (guitars) & Marc (drums), but also through his label Alea Jacta Est – that stands nearly alone as an islet of resistance and promotion of a scene scorned and despised (or ignored at best) by most of the media, and consequently of an audience that had shrunk more and more, he proved he was determined. Against all expectations he chose to carry on the torch of a declining and clinically dead movement. For a few years and despite their noble fight was doomed to failure, Olivier Pacaud and his band resisted and kept up the flame and rage as much as they could. They released their own productions that were real a commercial suicide, for a ''dark'' sparse audience that was soon to lose its interest for ''old-school'' bands and eager to turn to the awakening German ''dark wave'' that promoted nothing more than a fashionable vampire outlook. - "Res Non Verba" is the debut record and touches your heart & soul deeply with its neverending echoing and ravishing call of the muse take over!" CHAIN CULT - Demo 2018

Something exciting new is coming from Athens and the three members; Jason (vocals/bass), Dino (guitars) and Vangelis (drums) are Chain Cult. These guys released their powerful demo as tape and also as 10'' via the London label La Vida Es Un Mus. Their post punk is anthemic, militant and idealistic, putting music to a very dark and bleak time and place with a lot of groove and interesting lyrics. Another single followed and recently their passionate first album Shallow Grave was released. I am extreme impressed of their sound and it is by far the best new combo that I have heard in the past two years. I strongly advise you to keep an eye out for gigs and other records and I hope, they stay in the music world for a long time. You can find out more about the boys in a short interview by Obsessionist.

LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH - Open Your Eyes/Live @ My Father's Place 1982

Excellent soundboard recording @ My Father's Place/New York from October 1982 and I must confess: I didn't know them at all! Well, I think it's a good choice to start with a live record and this unofficial release (200 copies) fits perfect. A bit wiki info: "The Lords Of The New Church were an English/American gothic rock supergroup with a line-up consisting of four musicians from 1970s punk bands. The band originally comprised vocalist Stiv Bators (Dead Boys), guitarist Brian James (The Damned), bassist Dave Tregunna (Sham 69) and drummer Nick Turner (Barracudas). Launched in 1981, the band released three studio albums and three live albums prior to their dissolution in 1989. During this time, they underwent several line-up changes. More melodic and slickly produced than most punk, their music both reached a broader audience than that of many bands in the genre and alienated hardcore punk fans. The band presented a stylized tribal identity around their appearance and their music that fans embraced: the writer Dave Thompson asserts this represented "the first time since the Sex Pistols' Bromley Contingent fanbase [that] a band had succeeded in grafting its own identity onto its audience without first paying obeisance to the gods of highstreet fashion. Their stage antics became notorious early in their career, with Bators stunts on one occasion reportedly resulting in his clinical death for several minutes." Thirteen crackers in a fine sound quality, ned übel!

RONNIE URINI - Sail, Ship 7'' 1986

An old friend in this blog is Mr. multi-talented Ronnie Urini, Austrian sub-culture icon. The list of his publications is endless and his numerous band projects as well. Search for more examples and you'll discover lots of different stuff. This rare record was released on Sparkling Records and is a pretty chanson which should be enjoy in a romantic escapade with a glass of wine. The B side is the instrumental version. Once again, a small jewel from Ronnie which occurs day and night with large optical Ray-Ban Sunglasses and has built a myth around his figure by the indissoluble mixture of truth and fiction.

STICKY FILTH - Weep Woman Weep 1988

A visit to New Zealand is always worthwhile and over there to the west of the North Island to New Plymouth, the home of Sticky Filth and the three Craig (vocals/bass), Chris (guitars), Dave (drums) released their debut album on Ima Hitt with eight solid grooves. Three albums followed, a few singles and the band's still active to my knowledge. Also represented on compilations, which I'm unfortunately not familiar with, so I have to keep an eye out. Off to the weekend with you!

TRINK ZEHN - Terror Depression 1991

This record is posted in some other Blogs but many links are dead and somebody asked about, so I throw it out again. Munich based band Trink Zehn (Drink Ten) were founded 1987 by Thomas (vox), Klaus (guitars), Harry (bass) and Schnitzel (drums) and had their time from 1987 to 1991. In this peroid they released two EP's (listen) and one full length album. Trink Zehn play a decent Oi! punk and Terror Depression has nine fine songs (two in English) in luggage. I like the simple-minded music that the four spit out and the voice of Thomas is loud, aggressive and very rough, the power behind it motivated me each time. Lyrically, the band goes full offensive, nothing is spared, here is encouraged to shout along. So open your windows; show yourself and with Trink Zehn in your veins be sure the morons take notice of you. Overall a pretty good album, great sound and with nearly twenty-eight minutes playin' time much too short. By the way, a cool band name!

I think, it's time for another rare compilation from the grandiose Killed By Death series, today we dedicate ourselves to the 300 copies slab by Teenage Lust Records and meet twenty howlin' punk anthems of 1977-1982. The detectives convince with healthy taste and I think, the mix with well-known classics and pieces that are found somewhere on hard-to-get singles is fucking felicitous. Exact my bottle of Hefe and the right sound for breakfast! Admit, you've been waiting for this a long time...
