Vulpe SS was founded 1982 by Mamen (vocals), Loles (guitars), Begoña (bass), Lupe (drums) and this female Basque combo made in their short activity one fucking great 7Inch via Dos Rombos Discos which went on to sell 12.000 copies. However, legal difficulties created problems for the group on their promotional tour. The band dissolved in 1983 although they reformed briefly in 1985 to play some gigs. - This record today was released via Punkaway in a limited edition of 800 copies and the songs were all recorded live on May 20th, 1983 @ the Barbarela Rock hall in Palma/Majorca and you listen to twelve decent bloodstains, jaja, I can say that with certainty, especially when my nose runs and forehead burns. Also featured on numerous Compilations.

Las Vulpes were a female punk band from Bilbao formed in 1982, who rose to fame in 1983 after their performance on the TVE programme "Caja de ritmos", directed by Carlos Tena. Their performance on 23 April 1983 caused a national scandal when they performed their song "Me gusta ser una zorra" (I like being a slut), a loose adaptation of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" by The Stooges, with explicit lyrics about sexual freedom and rejection of traditional romanticism.
ReplyDeleteThe broadcast in the morning, considered children's viewing time, generated an immediate reaction. The ABC newspaper published the full lyrics, accusing RTVE of "degrading society" and "corrupting youth." As a result, the programme was cancelled, its director, Carlos Tena, resigned, and the State Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit for public scandal against the group and the presenter, which was eventually dismissed.
Despite the impact, the group disbanded shortly afterwards, after releasing only one single. In 2003 and 2005, the members reunited to reissue their music, and in 2012 they released a live album. Their legacy has been revalued over time: today, "Me gusta ser una zorra" is seen as a feminist anthem and a hymn to freedom of expression, in contrast to the censorship of the time.
