DIRE STRAITS - Love Over Gold 1982

Don't worry, the blog doesn't mutate into a pop archive, but good music needs to be heard and it usually doesn't run on the radio. This includes the London Gents Dire Straits, formed 1977 by Mark Knopfler (vocals/lead guitar), David Knopfler (rhythm guitar/vocals), John Illsley (bass/vocals) and Pick Withers (drums), they were active from 1977 to 1988 and again from 1991 to 1995 and this is their fourth album. Their music draws from various influences including jazz, folk, and country, and blues. Their stripped-down sound contrasted with punk and demonstrated a roots rock influence that emerged from pub rock. There were several changes in personnel, with Mark and Illsley being the only consistent members. On this record are five superb nuggets that didn't take long to tie me up and it's always a pleasure to listen to the extraordinary musicians with their brilliant performance and yesterday was just such a musical day with finest sharp and fiery English rock classics. I'm tired again, but let's see what goes today.
