KAKA DE LUXE - Las Canciones Malditas 1983

From the cold north to sunny south, back to November 1977, a group of young misfits, calling itself the lightweight of the pin, which ranged from futuristic comic fanzines making, decided to form a band, inspired by the newborn London punk storm. Kaka De Luxe was founded in Madrid and were Fernando Marquez (Lefty), Manolo Campoamor, Carlos Berlanga (Dario Castro), Enrique Sierra (Sir Henry), Olvido Gara (Alaska), Nacho Canut (zinc Alloy) and Pablo Martinez. No member knew just sing or play, but wasted energy and provocation in some letters that passed censorship difficult time. They recorded an s/t EP in 1978 and in 1983 appeared, when the group had been dissolved, this album with the 'damn songs' which contained their first demos. Kaka de Luxe was very active and is one of the most important bands of the Madrid scene!

  1. They are featured on the first movie by Pedro Almodovar "Pepy, Lucy, Bom y las chicas del Montón". Almodovar himself used to be somehow part of this new wave scene from madrid (nueva Movida Madrilena) back in the 80's. I think it somehow influenced his work. You have their appearance in that movie, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt7IIqnj750

    2. No, the band featured in Almodovar's "Pepi, Luci Bom y otras chicas del montón"is not Kaka De Luxe, is Alaska y los Pegamoides, formed by several ex-Kaka members around 78-79. I wrote about this in the kbd blog a while ago, check: http://www.kbdrecords.com/2013/03/14/kaka-de-luxe-st-e-p-7/ There you'll find more info, I'm lazy to re-write it here again ;)

Oh, and Almodovar of course was part of the Movida Madrileña (Madrid scene) of late 70's-early 80's, since this so-called movement was not formed only by musicians but also painters, cartoonists, all kinda artists including, well, some film-maker :D BTW, Almodovar even had his own band with Fabio McNamara (Almodovar & McNamara), they did disco songs with crazy queer lyrics.

      Saludos,

      Fernando :)
