THE STIFFS - Volume Control 7'' 1980

"From Blackburn in Lancashire the Stiffs started in 1977. Their first single 'Standard English' was released in early 1979 on their own Dork Records label. The much more impressive follow up "Inside Out"/"Kids on the street" was also released on Dork Records in December 1979 and both sides became instant favourites of BBC Radio One..s John Peel, who was quoted as saying on air that it was 'the finest record in the entire history of the universe'! EMI quickly snapped the band up and re-issued 'Inside Out' on their Zonophone subsidiary in early 1980. The single 'Volume Control' was released by Zonophone in November 1980 but it's lack of chart success prompted EMI to release the band from their contract and cancel plans for an  album. They signed to STIFF Records in January 1981 for a one-off single 'Goodbye My Love' (a cover of the 1975 UK hit by The Glitter Band), whilst the band went out on a UK tour with the U.K.SUBS. Several line-up changes ensued, but the Stiffs didn't release another record until 1985 with 'The Young Guitars' 12", once again on their own Dork Records. After incessant touring the band folded in 1988, leaving behind a fairly large legacy of unissued material." STRICHER - s/t LP 1982

Only album by this german band on Rio Reiser's label David Volksmund Produktionen (which released especially in the early 80s some good bands/records). Stricher were founded in Berlin by Helmut Schweiker, Jan Selber, Jochen Hansen, Maike Christiansen and Siewert Johannsen and their record was produced by Rio Reiser. The LP is extremely hard to find and is nowadays a little expensive when you hold it in your hands. Musically, the band offers a consistantly good mix between Punk, New Wave and dark rock, some might say Gothic but I think that is an exaggerationWhat excites me is the healthy mix of melancholic songs and hard numbers without being monotonous. Really a great record. Stricher fascinate and they prove this too on their following 7inch 'Rot/Morgen' a year later.

PERFECTORS - Journey To Mars EP 2010

A request from the babblestub and this is Wow! Four unreleased tracks from this awesome Welsh punk quintet that were all recorded back in 1979/1980. This beautiful looking EP has been pressed on the Japanese '1977' record label in a pressing of only 500 copies and they won't last long!! The Perfectors were an influencial punk/new-wave band, formed in Newport at the end of the 1970's. The Perfectors apparently had a big influence on a few bands that later formed part of the much publicised Welsh music scene. The Band eventually split up in the summer of 1980. Here we have four punk tunes which makes everyone power pop punk happy. Even essential their first 7inch YT502951D and the cuts on Bored Teenagers 3. Don't know who this sent in because it's relic from my old blog and a lot of water is flowed down the Main.

NRG - Aber Mein Liebchen 12'' 1986

This rare record is really amazing and I like it a lot. Very hard to find because it was pressed in a small editon. Here we have five strong punk tunes mixed in a catchy wavie sound plus the wild voice. Two 4 minute tunes, three short stirring tracks. Excellent!! Here's some info from their MySpace site: "Danish punk band NRG was formed in 1981 in the Copenhagen suburb Albertslund and existed until 1989. Their music evolved along the way from '76 punk and hardcore over free form avantgarde to a sort of paisley underground garage rock. They released the single Kulturel Forvaltning in 1984 and the mini-album 'Aber Mein Liebchen' (Hub Records) in 1986. Through all the years the band consisted of Kim Ingemann (guitar & vocals) and Claus Lindhardt (drums). Their line up was concluded with, in 1981-83: Erik Vosbein (bass) and Uffe Ejlerskov (guitar). In 1983-84: Uffe Ejlerskov (bass). In 1984-85: Soren Poulsen (bass) and Henning Malm (trumpet and garbagecans). In 1985-86: Uffe Ejlerskov (bass). In 1986: Emma Engberg (bass) and Lars Bjerr (guitar). In 1987-88: Henrik Geertz (bass). In 1988-89: Emma Engberg (bass) and Henrik Geertz (guitar). NRG moved base to Copenhagen in 1984 and performed regularly in the squatters' house Ungdomshuset and in the main rock club at the time, Barbue. NRG toured the main cities of Denmark and in Sweden, Russia and Uzbekistan. During 1990-1994 Kim and Claus rehearsed new material but performed only twice under the new moniker Shoom. In 1996 they had evolved into the project Shoom Unit". NRG can be found on Killed By Death #22 (coming soon) compilation. Don't hesitate to get this cool plate.

SPEEDTWINS - It's More Fun To Compete 1978

Like the other early Dutch punk bands are the Speedtwins musicians who have decided to do punk, and not those punks out who make music, as was the case during the second wave of punk from 1979 to 1982. Speedtwins is a punk rock band formed in 1977 in the Dutch city of Arnhem, east Netherlands, right next to the border with Germany. The Band members had Daniel and Vera Groen Jody on vocals, Jacki on bass, guitar and Leen Barbier Nico Groen on drums. With this lineup released the album It's More Fun To Compete! and two EP's. The name is a reference to a model Triumph motorcycle, created in 1937 by Edward Turner, a 500cc bike attractive to "lovers of speed". The album sounds fat for a punk band. Later that year the plate is in a different mix released by Philips. Philips also brings a single with a version of The Who's My Generation. In 1978, drummer Nico Groen makes the step to the formation Flavium blues. The occupation change with the musicians alongside vocalist Jody Carlo van Rijswijk (drums), Mike van Dalm (bass) and Peter Presser (guitar). Van Rijswijk and Van Dalm are in the same year replaced by drummer and bassist Theo Outhuyse Ton van Rossum. This releases the single occupancy 'Blackmail/Bomb In The Jukebox' and is among others shown in programs of Herman Brood and Teaser. Speedtwins comes to an end as the singer Jody Daniel died in a motorcycle crash in 1984.

THE MIX - Break Up Shake Up EP 1985

Here's a real powerpop rarity by a band from Nanaimo/British Columbia with their only record if I am correctly informed, released on the band's own Zoinks Records. Four wonderful mid-tempo songs which skip immediately into my blood, sing-a-long chorus, very harmonious and poppy. There's no failure, only hits...almost back to good. It's a request from Mr. Swedish Punk Fredrik and so here it is. Hope you enjoy this EP mate!

GENETIKS @ Waggon/Offenbach 16.04.2011

And now back to carefree days with this special live recordings from a band which were very sympathic & funny (so I found out) and my friend tvuzk invites us in those days to come in the Waggon to feel the real power of this awesome band. And Fuck, it kicks the shit out of me. The Genetiks from Nuremberg directed to a self-consciously noisy landmark in the German underground. In a free-floating mix of overseas and embossed Hardcore naiv-melodic New Wave of English origin, they prove to be a master of synapse formation, based on known, constant repetition. So that they move others in the vicinity of the Neue Deutsche Welle, which was better in their Dadaist approach to admit as many today. What it does, however, continue as Hubert Kah, are clearly furious views that do not want the context of the political and not drown not in the same pop-cultural cynicism. Musically and sonically the Genetiks are pleasantly elusive between Nomeansno, Fugazi, Bauhaus, and - to leave the name not to be huge - the undisputed kings of the Sloganizings surrogate. Not a bad neighborhood for this great little discovery. So I hope you enjoy this stuff and maybe you can feel a little bit from the great atmosphere in this pretty cool location called Waggon in a high quality sound - Beautiful Memories!

DEAD NITTELS - A.N.W.L. [Tape] 1982

This post is a request by R.W. from Linz and I almost forgot it but Reinhard remembered and so it should be. About the band there's some info there at Anti New-Wave Liga EP post or here and this tape (also known as green tape) are the first recordings, a rare, highly explosive combination of 22 rough songs. The Italian specialists Rave Up Records released a Dead Nittel-Werkschau with all the published songs of the early years called "Early Songs 1981-1983" (highly recommended). Viennese dialect coupled with aggressive sound, these are the Dead Nittels!

BRIGADES - Riot & Dance 7'' 1982

The Brigades are a punk band from Paris that was active from 1982 to 1989. This 7inch was released on the bands own label Rock Radicals and they come along with two nice melodic tunes. A band that was not lazy in their lifetime, four singles and albums prove it. I'm a little exhausted from yesterday's concert in Wiesbaden (I'm getting too old for such things, haha....) so take this record and enjoy the sun.

KLOTZS - Strafraum EP 2006

I have everything from Klotzs except this little nugget, so this was on my Wanted-List for a long time. For those who don't know what or who is Klotzs then click this button and ye illumined. A few words about their 6th EP here: The band is known for to wrap each of their plates in particularly extravagant artwork, wallpaper, laces and foldout sleeves already had to serve and for this 4-Track EP they use for the front cover a piece of artificial grass (splendid!!!). I think, they understand innovation really. Absolutely D.I.Y. and that's why I love them because they always have a surprise parat. To that a football sticker and a lyric sheet inside. Limited and hand numbered to 350 pieces and of course in green vinyl. No wonder, the EP were understandably sold out quickly (I got none). Musically, Klotzs is the punk-noise-band in Germany...unchallenged (there's no more to say about it). - By the way, they latest release 'Schwarzer Planet' is every penny worth and I promise; you will not regret it. Watch out for them LIVE!!!
