V/A - Jetzt Oder Nie! 2020

Welcome to a new compilation from WDM Records, and #007 is once again excellently equipped with rare German underground from 1979 - 1986, the data was undetected on a USB stick that I accidentally reactivated and all of this was sent to me X-Mas 2017 by Mr.Reinhard. In itself, I immediately listen to it because I know it is always excellent material, but here it was somehow different. Well, now here; Part VIII again full to the brim with a colorful palette with pop, rock, punk & new wave goodies from various singles, demos, sampler contributions & live pieces that hardly anyone knows, including myself. The title is nothing special, no other came to me and so it just became the opener and I like strawberries, so the cover has become a contemporary unspectacular one (the arm is doing better now). Enough words, suck the file in and praise or criticism is desirable. Part IX will be definitely different, I promise.

V/A - Odd Bods Mods & Sods 1979

June says goodbye with this rare compilation from Rok Records and all six bands have never received the recognition they had deserved, in my opinion. Okay, not all songs are killers but they have charm, a solid tempo and have released little besides this record, here and there a single and ferddisch. 1996 re-issued as CD by Captain Mod with ten bonus tracks, maybe someone can send it because this rip is not sooo brilliant. No matter, Kein Bock to mess up further on the PC, enjoy the last breath and do yourself a favour and grab this Odd Bods Mods & Sods!

TRAVOLTA KIDS - Veckans Brott EP 1979 + Det Känns Okej EP 1980

First I came in touch with this nice band as I found their first record on kbdrecords (one of the earliest blogs I know and one which I still follow). Check in if you looking for '77 exotic stuff and more, definitely worth it. Travolta Kids were a punk band during the big 77-point scale in Sweden. They were formed in 1977 in Åkersberga/Stockholm and were a six/seven piece band. They release their debut EP on Bröderna Surf and this record has four simple cozy garage numbers on it and you can really feel the spirit of a new subculture. In Sweden, U.K., Germany, France, etc. .. punk was born and many young and nowadays great bands were founded and the virus quickly spread over the entire planet (with a few exceptions).

The recordings here stimulate me always so I dance to kitchen and get another cup of coffee. After the EP they put seven new songs on the brilliant Bakverk 80 compilation on MNW Records. Further Bands here are KSMB and the Incest Brothers. A tour of all three bands together followed through Sweden and I'm sure those were cool gigs. The band changed the label and the second EP 'Det Känns Okej' was released on Mistlur with three cuts. This record goes more into PowerPop and I like the harmonic melodies which pull through and the sound is a bit better. In the same year they released their only full length album, again on Mistlur & is also present in the Blog. Directly after the LP the band split up. I have read the LP should be far away from their original sound and offers more shallow pop scrap. What do you think? The band features on various compilations, worth mentioning the Musikverket EP, Ny Våg 78-82 and Bloodstains Across Sweden #2A better opener for a shitty Monday is not possible today.

MARILLION - Garden Party 12'' 1983

Today on this stormy and rainy Saturday we come to a band which fascinate me since the beginning and who delivered four solid rock albums in their early phase, their best times (1979-1988). The band was founded in 1979 as an instrumental group under the name Silmarillion, based on the book by the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien. Founding members were Steve (guitar), Doug (bass), Brian (keyboard) and Mick (drums). In 1981, singer Derek William Dick, better known as Fish, joined the band, as did bassist Diz Minnitt. As a result, Jelliman and Minnitt were replaced by keyboardist Mark Kelly and bassist Pete Trewavas. This line-up released their first 12'' Market Square Heroes in October 1982 and remained until 1988, in this year Fish left the band and Marillion became uninteresting for me. Garden Party is part of the first album and the second single by the band and Fish explains: "Garden Party is a cynical outlook, the microcosm of Cambridge where the upper class is used to uphold a plastic facade rather than a reality and it becomes and act that rather a lot of people feel the need to maintain at Cambridge." - Usable infos: the original lyrics read "I'm Fucking", replaced by "I'm Miming" in the shorter radio-friendly Single release. "Rucking" in the previous line is a rugby term; the sport is referred to earlier in the song. Fish appeared on shows such as Top of the Pops, the UK's long running chart show and, at the point where he ought to be singing the broadcastable "miming", he shut his mouth and merely pointed at his lips as the words came over the PA. The album version (which was also included on the 12" release) contained the original lyric. The song is a parody of social elitism and snobbery. The B-side is a live version of "Margaret" (recorded @ Edinburgh Playhouse, 7 April 1983) and the 12Inch includes one more live goodies of "Charting The Single" (recorded @ Hammersmith Odeon, 18 April 1983). Marillion was an excellent band for nine years, with fantastic songs that included political as well as very personal lyrics and were are not a poor cheap Genesis copy like they were portrayed by some useless music critics, these bastards have no idea and have better shut their mouths, stupid assholes. Uiii, I'm too emotional, but I can't allow such uninspired behavior. Well it doesn't matter, enjoy the music and just be calm!

DEMENTIA - s/t LP 1984

Dementia is a four piece from Liverpool I guess (the slab was recorded there) and consisted of Jimmy (vocals), Tudor (guitars), Mike (bass) and Peter (drums), this is their only s/t output on Skysaw Records with seven songs and they remind me a bit of the legendary Instigators but they're many light years away. They play a solid mid-tempo sound but somehow, the noises doesn't infect me, it ripples like a broken tap, although the band has potential but unfortunately it doesn't flash enough in my opinion. Certainly interesting for the collectors among you and with a different background the four could have made it far. Anyway, the weekend is coming, today not a classic but rare and okay. By the way, very good cover.

CIRCLE JERKS - Group Sex 1980

If we speak of classics, this album shouldn't be missing in any decent punkrock collection. The debut, released via Frontier Records, by the Circle Jerks is a damn blast in any way and the band's defining best work. Group Sex met generally positive reviews and ratings, and the album is a masterpiece of hardcore sound. When I ripped the record the day before yesterday it was early in the morning and the volume was accordingly and no neighbor complained and I'm grateful that they are very tolerant. You can imagine how I've been slammin' here, there is no other way with this hot music. From the first to the last note, the level is kept high, Keith's distinctive voice gives the songs so much power and the others confirm this with brilliant catchy melodies. I recommend you an excellent review on the Sputnik page and of course buying this record. Now enjoy this delicate 320k/Bit vinyl rip with all scans... and woe, one complains!

ABM - Maßlos Übertrieben 12'' 1982

Berlin-based Punk/Wave Act with sole release on Neue Zeiten, only 500 copies were pressed; produced by Aggressive Rock/Noise owner Karl Walterbach. The consisted of Brunella (vocals/bass), Michael (guitar/vocals), Angelo (saxophone/synthesizer/guitar) and Hei (drums) and maybe you enjoyed their title song from my selfmade compilation Killed By Sunshine, if not, change that immediately. ABM make solid music and their four pieces are not earth-shattering and luckily the saxophone is not used strenuously. The a-side is more the punk side while the flip is more wavie stuff. Good record, more is not necessary.

THE PAIN - 30 Stitches Of Pain (Collection 1977-1979) 2018

Okay folks, you're lucky.... a second post is comin', I'm in the mood for postin' today. The last days and weeks it was different & I was thinking about to close the blog because my motivation was gone and blogging is simply time consuming and that annoys in the long run. I sway like drunk sometimes, but there are so many undiscovered treasures and timeless classics, and they keep calling me and the bastards don't give rest. NO!, they rather infect my punk heart so I haven't really a choice to fuck their damn ears. Well let's see how long I can hold out. Rocking Rolf Records presents a fantastic collection of thirty smashers by the Pain, Swedish punx from Nacka, with lots of unreleased ditties, 1-10 are the officially released ones from their three singles and the RIP-cassette, while 11-30 are unreleased demos, rehearsals and live tracks. Extreme rare, only 100 copies. This is a revised version with 192k/bit and if you want the rough draft (320k/Bit), click My Head Is Burnin' and check out the comment section.

NE LUUMÄET - Laki Ja Järjestys 1990

Third album by Ne Luumäet on Poko Rekords with eighteen ramopunk songs. Founded in 1985 and they strongly influenced by Ramones and they played a very significant role in the creation of the Finnish ramopunk genre. The band ceased operations in 1993, but returned to the stage in 1999, releasing "Autopartio 525" EP as well as the compilation Rahat Ja Pois. Since then, the band has not recorded any new material. In the 21st century, Ne Luumäet has performed publicly, mainly in charity concerts. However, in the summer of 2007, the band performed at Ruisrock and at the Tavastia Club in honor of Ramone Week named by Heko Luumäki ("Punkrock 30 years old," 30 years old from Ramones' first Finnish concert). In 2011, the band performed twice in Yy-Kaa-Koo-Nee: RAMOPUNK! book publishing events. Among the members of the band Ne Luumäet, guitarist Heko Luumäki has continued to be the most active in punk and ramopunk in the band Rehtorit, which he founded in 1995, where Kaide Luumäki and Finski also played Luumäinen in the early 1995s. In addition to band activities, Heko Luumäki has developed ramopunk events, of which Converse Club, Ramoviisut and Ramones Week are his creations. Joey Luumäki, the singer of the band Ne Luumäet, has composed new material and performed at solo gigs from time to time. Superb record!

THE SPIZZLES - Spikey Dream Flowers 1981

Original formed as Spizzenergi by vocalist/guitarist Spizz in Solihull, West Midlands. Later changed its name every year, subsequent names including Athletico Spizz 80, Spizzoil or the Spizzles, this happened 1981 and the band then consisted of Spizz (vocals), Lu (guitars/piano), Jim (bass), C.P. Snare (drums)The group released this record (on A&M Records) which cemented the group's sonic image as science-fiction weirdos. After two more singles and a dispute over payment for a video, A&M declined the option and 1981 ended in disarray.

Mike Stand, Smash Hits/March 19 - April 1, 1981: The Spizzles - a pop group? 'Fraid not. Spizz used to be crude and garage band-like but then overnight he became too darn sophisticated (both albums). This has got some grating bad habits - Jim Solar's disco bass and Spizz's monotonous yelling - but the lyrics are wittily tight and the whole band finds a new place in time and space with the black, bleak 'Risk' & 'Scared'. Value diminished by including four tracks already out as singles, including a disappointing remake of 'Soldier Soldier', but the Spizzles continue to teeter on the brink of their own potential. (6 out of 10).

Graham Flashner, The New Music Record & Tape Guide, 1987: 'Spikey Dream Flowers' offers robots, deadly war games and incessant runaway guitar (by recent arrival Lu Edmonds) with no place to go.

Well, all in all an interesting record with ten poppy songs, two of them for the trashcan and 'Soldier, Soldier' is a damn classic.
