HASS - Zurück In Die Zukunft 1989

Hass was a German punk band from the North Rhine-Westphalian cities Marl and Recklinghausen, founded 1978 and thus one of the first German punk bands and in their lifespan they released eight albums and six singles (listen) before they broke up after their farewell album "Kacktus" in 2014. Hass were particularly known for their anti-fascist, anti-social stance which they always put in their songs. With their debut album “Hass Allein Genügt Nicht Mehr” set the band the bar very high and for me, still one of the best German punk records of all the time, aggressive music with words that spit into unscrupulous grimaces. Hate is strong as Love & the feeling is splendid implemented! They need seven years to publish their second album and this slab has thirteen hard and uncompromising songs with again direct words plus the fantastic cover.. a brilliant release. Shortly before German reunification, the band shows effective measures against prejudice-motivated people. HASS rules and I love them! By the way, the "Back To The Future" triology is genial.

KIDDA BAND - Radio Caroline 7'' 2011

Formed in Nuneaton February 1976, this British powerpop band started as The Incredible Kidda Band (aka The Kidda Band) and they released their first 7'' on Psycho Records in 1978. Members of the band were unhappy with the work of producer "Des Dolan" and so both tracks were remixed at Utopia Studios on 11 May at 1978. Without much evident quality improvement, the band remained unhappy. The single was reviewed in Melody Maker on 15 July 1978 by the producer Tony Visconti: "Great!! A good record at last. Good solid beat and the group actually sings in tune. This could chart (as they say in the biz). They sound young but aren't quite punk or new wave. I commend them for keeping their sound strong, simple and uncluttered." On 31 August 1978, the band was signed to Carrere Records and the name was shortened to the Kidda Band. They released a series of other cool singles and in 1989 the band finally disbanded. During 2011, Last Laugh Records from New York began a series of releases of Kidda Band material including the unreleased 'Radio Caroline' and the 7'' was fast sold out. So here is this killer record with two heartbreakers.

ANTI SILENTIUM - Förbjuden Frukt 7'' 1982

This rare piece from Anti Silentium on Pang Records shines with two untypical New Wave classics and I have to admit, that I've rarely heard such tunes from this country, especially at that time. About the band I can't find no infos but apparently they consisted of three members and musically very melodic, which also underlines the melancholic keyboard, plus the creaky guitar which rhythmically scrapes to itAmazingly brilliant record, is worth hearing in every respect.

COLA FREAKS - s/t LP 2010

Cola Freaks from Århus, named themselves after a song by the Danish punk veterans Lost Kids, are fully on the current wave of hot Danish bands that have their roots in the late 70s/early 80s, but use them to develop the sound of today. The band was formed in late 2006 with former members of bands Bitch & Rats! In August 2007 they went to America at an impressive two-month tour that covered 39 states in total. At that time the band had existed for less than a year and only released one EP. Chimera released their second EP in May 2008 and in late summer same year, the band toured again the USA, this time as opener for Jay Reatard. Eleven songs on this album that blows me right away, the lyrics are in Danish, musically a very distinctive synthie/organ sound pervades bleak gruff Punkrock, that somehow sounds retro but also owns impulsive post-Punk-rhythms and cold arty Wave-aesthetics. In the end, melodic catchy '77 garage punk tunes how's I like from these hot Scandinavians. TOP!

FÅ KÄNDA MÄN - Lag & Rätt 7'' 1983

F.K.M. were a Swedish punk band from Hallstahammar and active from late 70 - mid 80's. Formed by Hans (guit), Inge (bass), Jorma (guit.), Rolle (drums) and Anders (vox) and the abbreviation was originally an acronym for "Fart Clip Belly", but when the band recorded their first and only 7Inch, they had to change its name to "Get Famous Men." The band has played in an old Swedish radio program: "New Wave", which was a sort of punk radio show. Musically, we have two solid punk rock numbers here that cannot compete with the old '77 style bands. They are, I think a little too smooth, more rock you know but the music has stayed as loud and energetic and here are two damn great songs on this rare EP. If you are a fan of old Swedish punkrock then I don’t have to tell you to get this little piece of vinyl.

SPORTSMANN - Die Freiheit Des Pantoffeltierchens EP 1981

This rare piece of wax from Sportsmann was highly praised in all relevant media, because this self-produced and only world-famous EP is a catchy declaration of love to Ruth, which had an important position within a reasonable period of time. Three pieces that get under your skin; poetic, emotional, profound and understandable. Clear as a sky without clouds. A song was justifiably selected for the small compilation Killed By 7Inch #6Bert Gossen (Salinos) retired to the band's rehearsal room for a week and recorded this EP, playin' all instruments and vocals. Superb record!

BAKRUS - Blå Ljus 7'' 1979 + Nettan 7'' 1980

Obscure stuff now again with more very rare sounds from Sweden, this time with Bakrus from Gothenburg seems to me, and the band existed only for a short time and consisted of Johan (vocals), Bernt & Sven (guitars), Kent (bass), Roland (drums) and they released two 7Inches on their own label Bakrus Records, certainly in small editionsSome of you may known them for their contribution to the terrific Killed By Death #51 compilation, which is packed with extremely rare stuff and the song is the flip from their second single 'Nettan'. But one after the other...

....'Blå Ljus' comes with two four minute lo-fi's which make their way in a leisurely tram pace without looking spectacular but never seems boring, comparable to a glass of beer that you drink with pleasure, you know. 'Nettan' is more punkier, more powerful and dynamic and also better produced, a real cracker. I wouldn't see them as the winner of the two because I'm fascinated by both and I like development. Presumably both slabs were recorded in the Nacksving Studios and apart from the compilation mentioned, they were never invited. That leaves four catchy songs by Bakrus and it is good that they recorded them... in every sense!

- Great Thx to Mr. Fredrik -

EASYBEAT - Don't You Know... EP 1981

A lot of rare Swedish stuff has been comin' in the past few days and I have to say: a few real nuggets are underneath. For example the debut EP by Easybeat on Hit-Records, a four piece from Landskrona and the band consisted of Anders (vocals/guitar), Dan (lead guitar), Jonas (bass), Benny (drums) and the songs shine with rich melodies, sweet harmonies and jangly guitars and I'm really excited by their music. The four made it to three singles before they probably disbanded in the mid-80s. So enjoy the four powerpop crusher and invite one of them on your next self-made compilation.

- Great Thx to Fredrik again -

V/A - It Happened... But Nobody Noticed 1982

Not another Australian compilation (here the copybecause of the title, this is the original on Gustav Records and a few liner notes about this great record: "It Happened But Nobody Noticed is a compilation of recordings from 1978-82 of Southern Connecticut Bands. For many of these groups  this is their first appearance on vinyl, for many their last. These selections contained herein typify the diverse and abundant talent that exists in this area. Some of these artists have recordings available besides their contributions to this record and where possible we have noted them. So this is it, our contribution to indepentent American music history, chronicling a short span of time when 'new music' really was new and fans crammed the clubs as young men and woman played from their heart, almost always coming away with their pockets empty but their minds are souls sated. There were, and are, many more deserving groups not represented here, due more to financial reasons on our and their parts than ability or vision. Thank you for the existence of all this!" - Rare stuff I would say and exclusively in this theatre!

2.Subdued - SUBDUEDS
3.Talkin 'Bout You - SCOUT HOUSE
4.From The Inside - HOT BODIES
