V/A - Bored Teenagers Vol.7 2014

Once again an infernal bang from the Bored Teenagers series with twenty-eight Great British Punk Originals 1977-1982 and who exactly ignites the explosions follows now:

"This volume kicks off with THE SINGLES who were from the Rochdale area and released one of the rarest UK Punk 45s back in 1978 with the controversial title of ‘Adolf Hitler. The song is about a German soldier who is the trenches and questions his belief and why he is here! The next two tracks are by IN THE GYM with two tracks taken from the incredible rare single from 1981. This band hailed from Kidderminster and this was their one and only 7Inch. Following on with the KATZ from Swindon with two tracks taken of their extremely rare 7Inch from ‘79, plus six unreleased tracks on the CD version. Next band to grace your speakers are from our very own Capital CHAOS UK with two super snotty punksters. This was the bands one and only 7Inch release before re-surfacing as the Mandies. Our next stop is Birmingham with two ultra rare absolute gems from THE HOBBS. Collectors around with world will be familiar with this band as they release Bop Around The Shop on the ‘Big’ label in 1978 but did you know that they had an aborted single that they recorded a year earlier for the ‘DJM’ label? Sadly these tracks never came out as the band were dropped in favour to the Satan Rats’. You are gonna be in for a treat with these two blasts….. Now comes THE WHAT?, hailing from South Humberside who released a killer little 3-Track EP in 1979 that includes the anthem East Coast Kids! Now we are heading all the way down to Cornwall to THE VENDETTAS, who trod all the Cornish music haunts throughout 1977 and called it a day in 1978.... great rough stuff that will stick in yer head and you’ll find you're self singing the lyrics without knowing it! The next two tracks that come blaring at you are from our front cover stars SKIDMARX. Hailing from Carlisle and relocating to South London and then Brighton. The last band to be featured are SYSTEM X from Enfield in North London. In their lifetime they offer no vinyl output but did record five tracks, all can be heard in their full glory on the CD version."

That reads brilliantly, doesn't it ...? Now it's your turn!

AMEN - Paranemia 1991

Crusty thrash from Espoo on this Friday and after three singles, Amen pushed out their debut album on Spinefarm Records. The combo consisted of Kimmo & Sebastian (vocals), Marko (guitars), Kaide (bass), Mika (drums) and were formed 1989, active until the end of the 90s, I guess. In principle, this is not my favorite type of music, but somehow I was impressed by the sound and therefore they deserve their chance. And if you want more, I recommend a visit to the Terminal Sound Nuisance blog, there you will find more infos about the music/band plus the Don't Imitate Show Your Hate EP from 1993.

PARANOIA - Shattered Glass 1984

All right, one more now because I'm in top form; I won another pizza versus my girlfriend in Backgammon after three sets of wins and she's a bit angry because she was close to winningbut a six and four doublets broke her neck, but she still love her King and if you are bored, play this game.... now to the post: I would say a record from Rot Records is never dull and another example is Paranoia, they were Janet (vocals), Paul (guitars), Mick (bass), Phil (drums) and this longplayer was posted by Curious Guy from Phoenix Hairpins blog (unfortunately inactive & today as an archive) in fuckin' 2008 and now I think it's time to post it again because I listen to this album in the last days and thought to myself "what an amazing record!", it must be available because it's a terrific one, I think it's okay & important while the link doesn't work and this stuff deserve a re-upp and so I bring it on for you again and don't kill me Curious, the credits belong to you. About the band is nothin' to find except their MySpace site where you can find more songs from this Stoke-On-Trent based combo, can also be found on numerous compilations. Let's Goth'N'Roll!!!

62½ - Titta Hit 7'' 1982

A totally mystery to me are this rather unknown band from Sweden with their only release, I think, on NoFun Productions. 62½ consisted of Himmler (vocals/drums), BeHå & PhotoModel (guitars), Genztler (bass) and the four offer two '77 Rock numbers with a touch of punk, the guitars are impulsive, particularly on the a-side and the flip comes along with a ska rhythm and a nice guitar solo. I don't like long guitar solos but the boys pull this through well. No infos about the band can I found, no compilation contributions and what more can I say??? Another nice record which demands your full attention.

CAREFREE - Eating Your Own Words EP 1989

Four piece combo from Lüdenscheid who have two albums (the debut from 1991 is coming soon) and this EP immortalized and Carefree consisted of Stefan (vocals), Martin (guitars), Thorsten (bass), Jens (drums) and they existed for about four years, I think. In my opinion, a completely underrated band whose musical talent is absolutely convincing, plus critically lyrics that deal with emotional, social and global views and a wide variety of topics that are still relevant. The reason why their records are selling cheaply these days is surely due to the fact that they came out on a small label and didn't get the effect they were hoping for. The EP was produced by the band themselves and Weed Productions, a sublabel of Flight 13, wowed the band and released their two albums afterwards. Three songs here and each one a good one.

RADIO BLANK - The Mary Whitehouse EP 1977

One more rare & great EP today and these four songs are all that survived in some drawers, tapes or archives and the baby's called: "Radio Blank, a four-piece punk outfit featuring Dave Balfe (bass) and Alan Gill (guitars), both future members of The Teardrop Explodes, together with Keith Hartley (vocals) and Steve Brick (drums), got together in November 1976 as the first wave of punk exploded across England. They paid their dues, hauling their wild, tight, high-speed, angry punk energy all over Merseyside playing most often at Eric’s Club in Liverpool. Not always easy gigs as the charged atmosphere often made it a good excuse for a punch-up, The band battled on helped by their wildly enthusiastic supporters to become one of Merseyside's premier punk outfits. Their tenure may have been short – winding things up in October ’77 – but it was definitely memorable. Thought lost until recent times – the band having released no music in their single year together - forty year old live tapes were discovered and the raucous noise of 1977 released. "Like many of our generation, punk grabbed us by the scruff of the neck,” said Dave Balfe. “…cropped our hair, tightened our jeans, and dragged us out screaming and yelling across the stages of the local towns. There were fights, there were tears, there was laughter, there was a roaring racket of badly tuned guitars and cheap drums. But by the time it let us go we were changed forever!" Love Child Records proudly presents The Mary Whitehouse EP (250 copies) features four original raw, savage, fast paced Rock'N'Roll snarling with attitude." Pack In 👌!

VERLORENE UNSCHULD - s/t EP 1981

Puhhhh, a little tired from the hard weekend and all re-upp requests must wait until next week. Now Verlorene Unschuld, formed 1981 in Berlin by Raymond (vocals), Andreas & Straftat (guitars), Jörg (bass), Michael (drums) and they won the Senatsrockwettbewerb in the same year (a competition of Berlin bands), resulting in a government financed but self-distributed 7" production (1200 copies) and a sponsored gig in the capital. They signed to Pool/Teldec and produced one more single and a rare 12Inch. This nice piece of wax on Berlin Rock News is their debut vinyl and is not really a punk record & a bit atypical for Berlin bands at that time, we all know the AGR and Weird System bands but V.U. are a little different and have their own charm and delight us with three catchy mid-tempo goodies.

SERENE FALL - Silent Word 10'' 2015

I've already told a lot about Serene Fall, a gifted band from M'gladbach, founded as four piece, disbanded as three about four years. Silent World is the last record, released via Major Label in an edition of 500 copies. Four songs, all great and I remember, when I first heard the title track, Maul gave me a demo many years ago with damn good songs and Silent World was one of them, back as four recorded at the end of the 90s, I guess, I was immediately impressed and urged him to put the song on vinyl (as well as Just Friends but Udo didn't want that) and five years ago the masterpiece was finally immortalized as flip on this fantastic 10". I think, it wasn't easy to record this twelve minute piece with just one guitar but Maul (vocals/guitars), Udo (bass), Uli (drums) made the best of it and is one of the best songs by the band in my opinion. After their breakup, Maul and Uli continued as Carrows who released their demo as an EP this year, also on Major Label, 50 copies, and now active as Troops Of The Sun, their debut To Feed The Heart was released last year.

I re-upped all Serene Fall stuff before you ask because I know they would come. Enjoy!

CRANES - Wings Of Joy 1991

I'm a friend of the Cranes sound is nothing new and three previous posts (all re-upped) underline that and today comes #4: Wings Of Joy is the first full length studio album by British rock band Cranes, released in 1991 on Dedicated Records. This followed mini-album Self-Non-Self, released the previous year, and a limited cassette run, both on local indie label Bite Back!, and is seen as important to their growth as a band as it shows them 'continuing to expand their pallet', while the 'gripping, chilling atmosphere... hasn't moved an inch', hauntingly beautiful, mesmerizing, evocative! Here's an excellent review from another empathetic friend which will inspire you for the typical Cranes sound:

"From the quiet, descending strings and woodwinds at the start of "Watersong," which launches Cranes' first proper full-length album, things are at once in sync with, and far removed from, the deep murk of the group's earliest days. The gripping, chilling atmosphere that Cranes dwell in hasn't moved an inch, but in terms of approach, it shows that on the (very well) self-produced Wings Of Joy, the quartet has continued to expand its palette. One thing to note is in the album credits: Matt Cope may have been initially invited in for live bass playing, but it's Alison Shaw who plays the shuddering, ominous deep notes throughout, and effectively at that. Check out her opening work on "Living and Breathing." It's a simple enough pattern, but delivered in such a context that it immediately conjures up a nervous, threatening mood. Jim Shaw's relentless percussion, never overbearing but always moving with a stately, ritualistic tinge, and his piano and keyboard arrangements -- elegant and haunting at once -- set the rest of the tone. His guitar, along with Mark Francombe & Cope's credited work, adds everything from brisk, gently creepy acoustic touches to vicious electric snarl. Add Alison Shaw's almost too wistfully calm and sweet singing -- just missing out on easy interpretation, but suggesting so much via delivery -- and the result is what most goth music, or any music with a sense of shadows and doom, aims for but generally misses.

With songs like the epic "Adoration" and the gentler "Tomorrow's Tears" already signaling the careful variety that dominates the album thanks to their previous appearance on EPs, the new material takes center stage here. "Starblood" is the most flat-out disturbing track, with Jim Shaw's slow-paced, pounding drums and Alison Shaw's guitar wailing slammed up against cold slabs of feedback. The album as a whole is a beautiful, if unsettling, piece of work. (Ned Raggett, AllMusic)" - I'm sure, you're hungry now and be happy to know another fantastic band more, touch it!.

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World #5 2019

Early hour on this Friday, I pack another Bloodstains compilation out with more rare early sounds from all over the world, and Volume 3 is once again as CD-R in vinyl look released and by the same detectives, I think. Half of the twenty songs are known to me and are always welcome, while the 'new' material is sometimes questionable and I personally would have made a different selection. But with so many unknown bands/songs I'm always amazed where music was made with sometimes first-class nuggets. And I don't hesitate long, as soon as a new release of this brilliant series is available. It's a shame that Killed By Death doesn't go any further. Maybe there comes one more hype like in the 90s, who knows. 100 copies exist and watch out for #6 next year. Have fun discovering new musical highlights!
